Suddenly windows 10 doesn't install updates....it gives me this error - There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800703f1)
I tried running SFC and DISM but those two don't work either, this is what cmd shows....
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19044.1561]
(c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.19041.844

Image Version: 10.0.19044.1561

[== 3.8% ]
Error: 1009

The configuration registry database is corrupt.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

I checked the CBS log and it says something about a components file or something....i think that's corrupted so please can someone help or suggest any fixing measures.

I will be assisting you regarding your computer's issues. Since I'm still in training in Windows Update, my fixes have to be approved first by a qualified Update Expert, so there may be a slight delay in my replies. Look at it as a good thing though, since you will have two people looking at your problem. :-)

For now, please attach your CBS folder as instructed in Step 5 here.

Hi, SenonDJ.

Upload your COMPONENTS Hive
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com or Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace, and post the link in your next reply.

Hi.

Just a hint for you when you reply: No need to quote my post into your reply. Just write your reply in the reply box.

Moving on.

1. Replacing the COMPONENTS hive
  • Download the attached zip file and extract its content on to your Desktop.
  • Navigate to the following path and rename the COMPONENTS file inside Config folder as COMPONENTS_Old.
  • Copy the extracted file in the Config folder.
C:\Windows\System32\Config

2. Run SFC
  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter
Code:
sfc /scannow
  • Let the scan finish.
  • You will normally get one of the following results:
    Code:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation
Please post the result you got (a screenshot).

3. Run DISM
  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
Code:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Let the scan run until the end (100%). Depending on your system, it can take some time.
  • Please post here the result you got (a screenshot).

In your next reply please post:
  1. If replacing the COMPONENTS hive folder went fine
  2. The 2 screenshots
