After updating all XP files Apr 8, I defragged complete Then ran a registry defrag
power outage crashed my system after defrag but before restart.

F8 does not access safe mode, or other commands.

can reach repair at C;\windows but can access limited functions typing. such as:

ran chkdsk /p, but no other commands.

this is second PC, can access other pc for internet, for downloading, etc... but that system is Vista.

Thanks in advance I realize this is a big one.

I have been using 2nd system for all major backups

What Registry cleaner did you run? Why did you run it to begin with? It's likely to be source of your problems.

If you can get into Safe Mode, or a command prompt, try this - How to start the System Restore tool by using the safe mode option with the Command prompt in Windows XP.

If you cannot, try the Recovery Console and run a restore from there. This guide discusses both when the console is already installed, and how to use it from an XP CD. How to install and use the Windows XP Recovery Console

Very few people here use or support XP, so unfortunately help will be limited. XP has very few recovery features when compared to Vista onwards, which introduced start-up repair and many new features.

Windows XP support has officially ended too, so you won't be receiving any more security updates which are vital for a secure operating system. I would suggest trying to restore or recover your data, and then upgrading or purchasing a new computer if funds allow you to do so, or just don't access the Internet with the Windows XP computer.

If you still need to recover Windows, there are some methods to manually restore your registry if you're up to it. This is a great, step-by-step write up, which can also be done at XP's recovery console with a bootable XP cd. This is Microsoft's process.

XP was only retired a week ago so it hasn't mysteriously fallen off the map, nor is it going to explode if you still use it..
