[SOLVED] You sfcfix will not run on my system

The other updates that used to show before running the tools are not listed any more.

Correct, that is a result of resetting the Windows Update components. Any updates that were installed prior to running the reset won't show up in the update history, but are still installed.
Windows Update should determine which updates are applicable to your Windows installation and only offer those updates.

Probably not a real issue it was just something that was different.

Always a good idea to check :smile9:

A recent post at Bleepingcomputer jogged my memory about something.
Something that I had tried to figure out was how suddenly this happened and the PC seemed to be working ok.
At one point you speculated that this may have been the left over result of a prior infection of some kind.
I really could not buy that at the time as I could not remember being infected with anything on here. That was not quite true.

About a week before all this took place I did go to a Secunia web site to look at their PSI tool. However It was a redirect to a malicious site pretending to be Secunia. I was suspicious so I did not click on anything but that really does not mean much these days. Shortly a little later Superantispyware alerted that it had stopped the installation of 15 spyware files and quarantined them. Maybe #16 got thru. The time frame coinsides pretty closely. So I may have had an infection after all.

Hi dannyboy950 & welcome to the forum.
Did you run any anti-virus, and anti-malware tools other than SAS?

Yes I run defender and MBAM resident but ran a manual scan afterwards just in case. They never made a peep.
