Change Background Of Settings App To A Dark Background

Hello Everyone ^_^,

In this tutorial, we will change the boring white (Yet clean) background of Immersive Control Panel (Also known as Settings App in Windows 10). Once you follow the tutorial, the background on your system would be like this -

Follow the below steps to change the background -
1. Press Windows Key + R (Run Window). Once the Run windows has opened, type in regedit and then press OK.

2. The Registry Editor would open up. Once it has opened up, navigate to the below key using the Side Pane -
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize

3. Now right click on the Personalize Key and then New->DWORD (32-bit) Value.

4. Name that key as AppsUseLightTheme and make sure that it's value is 0.

5. Voila! Now go and check the Settings App. The background would be black now.

In case you do not like the black background as you expected, you can remove the black color by following the above instructions till Step 2 and then deleting the AppsUseLightTheme key by right clicking on the key and then clicking on Delete.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial ^_^

Re: How To Change Background Of Settings App To A Dark Background

Followed these steps but no color change occurred. I'm running Windows 10 Home (i'm still not sure why Dell would sell a new i7 laptop with this installed), and a quick internet search finds the following: "We’ve been told the registry change only works on the Professional, Enterprise, and Education editions of Windows 10. it won’t work on the Home edition for some reason." (How to Enable Windows 1’s Hidden Dark Theme).

1) Do you know if this is true, and if so, why?
2) Do you have an alternative method that would work with my version of Windows?
3) Should I just go ahead and upgrade to Windows Pro? I wouldn't mind having bitlocker, but it's somewhat unnecessary since I use Veracrypt. I don't need to join my computer to a domain, and I use alternatives to both RDP and Hyper-V, so I'v never really been able to justify the cost.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I was just about to open up the Registry... oh I have Win10 Home too. Boooooo. :(

I wonder if an insider build would work, but probably not.

The latest inside builds have a built in dark mode you can turn on in settings.

Hi! :smile9:

It worked on my system Win10Homex64.
The computer came originally with windows 8 equipped.
The change was instantaneous, I didn't need to restart either explorer or windows.

Worked fine for me - yay! :D

And yay for the insider builds too :)

You can also change it in settings, home, personalisation, colours, choose your default app mode: light/dark.
It is probably available since August 2016 in version 1607 ("Anniversary Update" - "Redstone 1").
