Open an Elevated Command Prompt (Windows 8/8.1)

This simple tutorial will show you how to open an elevated command prompt to run commands that require administrator permissions.

Method One
  1. Open the Power User Task Menu.There are two ways to do this:
    • Press the Windows Key and X
    • Right click the Start Button (Windows 8.1)
  2. Choose Command Prompt (admin)

  3. If necessary, enter the admin username and password in the UAC screen that pops up and press "Yes"

Method Two
  1. Click either the Start Button in Windows 8.1, or press the Windows Key on the keyboard to bring up the Start Screen
  2. Type command prompt - just start typing, no need to click anything.
  3. Right click Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator

  4. If necessary, enter the admin username and password in the UAC screen that pops up and press "Yes"
