Hey,

I have a 2008 Server R2 SP1 that I am getting errors when trying to run the updates. I have been searching and have already ran system file scan (as admin) and then further searching has led me to running the system readiness tool. So far nothing has worked. I'm at a loss on what to do so any help would be greatly appreciated. The checksur log file contains the following:

I tried re-running the readiness tool again after a server reboot but still have the same exact errors. Thanks, Matt.

Could someone at least let me know if this is fixable without a complete reinstall? I would rather not spend the $250 with Microsoft for them just to say the OS must be reinstalled. Thanks for any help with this.

Hello ml504, welcome to Sysnative!

Sorry for the delay, there's only a handful of us and a lot of you guys so we've got a bit of a backlog to work through. Do you still need help with this?

Also, with Microsoft support I can almost guarantee that, as you suspected, they won't fix this and will tell you to reinstall so just save yourself the money if you do go down that route :) I'm confident we can fix this though.

Tom

Tom,
Thank you very much for the response, yes I am still needing help with this issue.

thanks,
Matt

Hi ml504,

This should fix everything:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download the attached file, SFCFix.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.txt - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
 5. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

When it's done, run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again please, then post the log:

I should be able to access another 2008 server if there is something you need for me to copy if that would help.

Just checking to see if you've had time to look at this any more. I do have access to another server if there is something you need me to copy. Thanks.

Hi ml504,

I'm really sorry for the delay, I've had a lot on recently and have a huge backlog of threads to reply to.

Uploading the files from another server would be great, thanks. Can you upload C:\Windows\system32\config\COMPONENTS please? It'll be about 50MB so probably too big to upload as a zip here. Running this on the server will upload it to us here:

Uploading it elsewhere is fine as well, I don't mind at all :)
