sfc /scannow not working (+ other problems)

So, the backstory...my HDMI port was giving me some problems with the TV, so I thought a graphics driver update would solve the problem. Downloaded and installed the driver, but apparently because Microsoft released a bum update (KB3004394), I had to uninstall that before the driver install could work. The first time I tried uninstalling the driver, the system hung on the "Windows is configuring update. Please do not turn off your computer." page, so I had to do a hard reset, Windows reverted the changes, and I logged back in. I was looking for some solutions and ran an sfc /scannow, to which Windows told me there were errors that it couldn't fix, so I opened up the CBS log to see if I could manually fix them and there was nothing to be found. Booted into safe mode, ran it again, same thing - no errors (in the log). Booted normally, uninstalled the same update, took ages, but this time it went through. I was researching other fixes in the interim to see why it may not have been working and came across DISM (System Update Readiness Tool). So when I rebooted after it uninstalled the update, I downloaded and ran the tool. It immediately turned my valid copy of Windows 7 (64bit), not valid and now says that my copy of Windows is not genuine. Additionally, after I had let the tool finished, I took at look at the CheckSUR log and noticed these errors:

I read somewhere that the two problems are related, but I'm not really sure where to go from here!

Since I forgot to include the SFCFix log earlier, here it is now:

I tried attaching the CBS folder as well, but the attachment manager wouldn't let me (file size restriction?). Given that SFCFix says there's no errors in CBS, maybe it's not important?

Not sure if errors in the CBS or CheckSUR logs are causing my sfc /scannow to not work properly, but there's some kind of issue going on there.

Hello and welcome to Sysnative forums.

Sorry for the delay. Can you please run the following update to try and fix the damage caused from KB3004394:Install KB3024777 to fix an issue with KB3004394 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

The errors inside the CheckSur log will most likely be the cause as to why SFC /SCANNOW is failing.

Lets have a look at the genuine issue first:
  1. Download MGADiag (by Microsoft) from the link found below:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012
  2. Run the tool by double-clicking on the file. Press Continue when prompted
  3. When it has finished, press Copy then Paste (Ctrl+V) this into your next post please

Please also mention what version of windows is mention on your COA sticker (if you have one) but don't post the key.

How to Tell ? Hardware

I downloaded KB3024777 and ran it, but I'm not sure if it did anything. It was an extremely small file size, the update seemed to be done in 5 seconds, and it doesn't appear under Windows installed updates list.

Here is the output from MGADiag:

  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.
After a couple of seconds the Windows activation dialog will appear. If you are asked to enter in a product key please use the one from your COA sticker, instructions can be found Here.

Once done please restart your computer and most a new MGADiag report.

Hopefully I responded early enough tonight to get this problem fully resolved before you have to get going - not having full function of the laptop has been problematic!

Typed in all those commands and it gave me a bit of troubles, but I think I ended up typing in the product key wrong the first time (go figure) and it seems to have successfully activated. On to the next problem!

It might say successfully activated but the MGADiag report doesn't look any better...

The TSS error is still showing, the above should of fixed it.

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194

(you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

Odd, the current driver seems to be working:

I'll install the one from the link and let post results in about 5 minutes.

Edit: MGADiag results

Sorry I was waiting for a new post, I didn't realize you edited your other post.

I will get the expert of these MGADiag logs to come ans take a look at your MGADiag report.

In the mean time the errors from SURT will be the focus, first I want to see if we can automatically repair these files.

Download and Run SFCFix

Please download and run SFCFix from >Here<

It will take about 15 minutes to process. Once the scan has completed a notepad file will launch with the results. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the results and post them back into this thread. Please put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

I figured, but it's not exactly proper forum etiquette to double post.

Here's the output, seems the same as the original log:
Code:

Yea no changes were made. To be honest, at this point you will be probably be looking at a repair install, recreating those missing values will most likely lead to more missing registry entries down the line.

So that's with regards to just the CheckSUR missing entries? If everything seems to be functioning OK, would a repair install still be necessary?

Additionally, what's the word from the MGADiag expert?

There's no obvious problems in your MGADiag ;) - unfortunately there's no clues there as to what your other problems may be caused by either
:(
please upload your CBS folder, so we can take a good look at the detail - best is to copy the entire folder to the desktop, then compress the copy - it may well not upload because of the size limits on the forum, so upload it to your favourite fileshare site, and post a link.

You should be able to do it via the safe mode menu and choosing repair computer, it should bring up the screen that looks like you are installing Windows for the first time, but select repair your computer.

Who is your OEM?
