Hi All

I have the same issue (as the ones that were reported on this forum, except I am unable to solve it) with MSDTC.LOG file not being compressed and well I tried to follow steps described on the forum but it did not work for me. I am attaching the log file generated after I ran SFCFix.exe. I would be really thankful if you could help me. I am also posting here the content of the file.

Thank you a lot!
George

Hi again,
I fixed DISM, then ran chkdsk /r on C: (where I have windows 8.1 installed. Both of them ended "successfully". Then I ran scannow and it ended again with the same error about corrupt MSTDC.LOG. I am the content of the log file below. I guess I either need to compress MSDTC.LOG or tell sfc to not to look for compressed MSTDC.LOG. I have no idea how to do either of these two. Could you please help me in solving this issue?
Thank you a lot,
George

Here is, I guess, the [only] relevant log to my problem.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. I need a little more information before I can provide a fix for you. Please do the following.

Step#1 - Re-Run SFC and Provide Log
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hi BrianDrab & Thanks a lot for the quick reply!!

Thank you. Please try the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please
Step#2 - Verify Corruption is fixed

Thanks a lot a lot a lot! All is well now regarding the issue I had with msdtc.log. I tried to attach two log files to this post but attachment process does not work. It's looping endlessly, will try later to do so again.

Also, when I was trying to repair MSDTC.LOG, I uncovered or somehow got the new issue I had never experienced before (unlike almost all other users of windows 8/8.1). My PC is not shutting down / rebooting if I do not do a hard shutdown (keeping shutdown key down for several seconds). It literally started three days ago (at least I noticed it then).

I deactivated fast start-up and did try to analyze event logs but was unable to single out any specific program/event/application that can cause this. Is there a place on the forum where I can ask for a help regarding this new issue?

Thank you so much again for helping me already!

Kind regards,

George

Did you zip it up first? Right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder. Then upload the new .zip file, otherwise it won't upload properly.

Now I did zip it and it worked. Thanks a lot. I will post now regarding the new issue of not being able to shutdown / reboot win8.1 pro.
Thanks a lot,
George

I've verified that you have no more corruption. Take care and good luck with your shutdown issue.

Niemiro - Thanks for the info. I'll adjust my instructions accordingly.
