This post relates to two treads:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...fix-windows-update-error-code-0x80073712.html

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...rrupt-store-files-sfc-fix-dism-hangs-40%.html

Greetings,

I have been having the same issues as described in the above two posts.
Computer: HP Envy 700
OS: Windows 8.1 (64bit) image 6.3.9600.16384
Problem: unable to update windows - prevents me from receiving further updates, and occasional mouse & keyboard freeze requires hard shutdown.

Last night i did a Dism.exe check and tried to cleanup image - at 40% it hung for an hour so I stopped the process. I had the log file from this in the CBS folder but it was deleted. There were many errors in the log when I reviewed it yesterday. I lost it because it was deleted when i did a system restore this morning.

I followed your instructions and ran SFCFix.exe as admin. See results below.
Note: it took less than 20 seconds to run thru.. not 15 mins. So it may not be checking it properly.

My cbs log file is big. Can upload via the method you described. Thanks for your forum.

What to do next?

Please advise.

Thanks

Hi zeal. Welcome to Sysnative.

Please do the following to upload your CBS log.

Step#1 - Upload Log
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2
. Copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. You will need to right-click your mouse and paste into the command-prompt window. Using the keyboard won't work.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Right-click your mouse on this file and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. A file will be created named CBS.zip. Please attach this file to your post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as SendSpace, Dropbox or One Drive and just provide the link.

BrianDrab,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I ran SFCFix.exe today. It ran for 30 seconds and reported no errors (sfcfix.txt). I followed your instructions above with attached log file here, along with original txt file for good measure.
CBS.txt
CBS.zip
SFCFix.txt

I'll keep watching for response.
Thanks,

Andrew

Unfortunately it's been too long since you posted so the logs aren't useful. Please follow the instructions below so we have current data.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start
    w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. When DISM finishes scanning your component store, zip up and attach your CBS log to your next post:
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Thanks for prompt reply BrianDrab,
I'll run the DISM today and upload CBS.log
Andrew
