Hi

I have Windows 8.1 and everything is working fine and all the updates have been downloaded
all 40 of them!!!!!!!!!!!!Then I double checked to make sure and Lo and behold another one...
This is as above 80072EE2 failed.....'Service Registration is missing or corrupt'
Can you tell me 'what is the service registration' ?? and can you help to resolve the issue??

I have Avast and MWB which are up to date and scans done daily and all is clear.

Thanks in advance

Regards Rozzer

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. We can try to resolve this issue for you.

We'll have to do a couple scans to get some information first. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFC Scan
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Step#2 - SFCFix Scan
1. Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your Desktop.
2. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
3. Double click on SFCFix.exe to open it.
4. Follow all on screen instructions and upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop named SFCFix.txt.
5. Please post the contents of this log in your next post. Thank you.

Corruption is now fixed so please reboot your machine and then try Windows Updates and let me know if you get any errors. Thanks.

Hi BrianDrab

Thanks for your help so far it is much appreciated.
I have just tried ‘Check for updates’ after reboot and the same thing
happens i.e. ‘Windows update’ page opens but is blank with
the blue circular indicator running, I cannot do anything with that
page, cannot shutdown, reduce , minimize etc but I can access
everything outside that page and work as normal but the ‘update screen’
is locked and stays behind other Windows, even the icon on the Taskbar
will not close it. I tried to open a new window using the Taskbar by
clicking ‘Windows Update’ and a new Window opens and also freezes so
now I have 2 Windows.I have to close with the Task Manager.
I allowed it to run for about 45minutes and I received the normal ‘Windows
Update screen with the following : -
(Windows could not search for new updates) (There was a problem checking
for updates) (error code 80080005) and the window closes normally.

Thanks once again

Regards Rozzer

Hi BrianDrab

your help for " registration is missing..." ( w. update conection and home grup problems ) in windows 10 build 10565 work perfect. Thank you very much!

Hii Rozzer,

I can understand your situation very well because i have also faced Service registration is missing or corrupt error recently.

But thanks to some helpful solutions, i resolved this issue. You can also follow these methods in order to get rid from this Service registration is missing or corrupt Windows 10 or 8.1 or 7 error:

Solution No. 1: Start Windows Update Related Services

  • Open Run dialog box by pressing Windows + R keys together and type services.msc in it then press Enter.
  • Search for Windows Update from the list of services and choose the startup type as automatic from here.
  • Next you have to click on Start option if it was stopped by default.
  • Select Apply and click on OK option.
  • Now search for Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Cryptographic Service.
  • Repeat all the previous steps to start them and then reboot your computer.

Solution No. 2: Run Windows Update Commands

  • Open command prompt as administrator in Windows 10.
  • Now copy the below mentioned commands one by one and simply paste it in Windows command prompt then hit enter. Now, all the work will be done automatically:
net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

  • Once entire commands is excuted successfully, wait for some seconds and close the command prompt then reboot your system.
Solution No. 3: Run System File Checker (SFC)

  • Open command prompt with admin rights on your system.
  • Once command prompt is opened, enter sfc /scannow and hit Enter key.
  • It might take a few minutes to complete the entire process.
  • All the corrupted files which are stored on your computer will get fixed.
  • Open Windows update troubleshooter and check Service registration is missing or corrupt is fixed or not.

Important note: If any of these solution doesn't fix Service registration is missing or corrupt error then you can simply Reset Windows 10 System without deleting any files.

I hope this methods help you.
Thanks
