Hello,

I have reserved my update to Windows 10 but cannot finish the current win 7 updates due to 80073712 error when I try the only left update KB3071756 (a security update).

Before, I spoke to Windows help-desk for about 3 hours yesterday and the last thing they offered was system readiness tool. After I tried to run it more then 10 times, eventually it did not crash and successfully finished its job. Yet this did not prove any useful as the problem persists.

Then I started to search on internet, used sfc /scannow and
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" codes to obtain sfcdetails.txt; then learned that there are some files corrupted and unfixed.

I look forward to your help with dealing with this last update.
Thanks a lot in advance.

(My CBS.zip is too large, but I will try the other way to get it to you as described here.)
(I did not include any screenshots because the Windows is in Turkish. But the error code should do the trick I guess.)
(I closed any security software while following the steps I included above.)

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

Hello Aura!

Thank you for your quick reply.:smile9:

I did what you instructed.

(I am sorry but; I hope, me having run this tool so many times -as I indicated in my first post-, will not cause any problem.)
(Also, this process takes me about 30 to 40 minutes -instead of 15-20 mins- on my computer.)
(Plus, until the and nothing changes in the SURT and then in a fraction of a second all the process happens and the loading bar fills. I am saying in case it may tell something about the issue.)

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

It looks like your CBS.log is clean. Can you try to install the KB3071756 now? If it fails, upload the following files for me please.

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\Windows\Logs*\CBS\CBS.log

The update was really very smooth, no problem at all. Thank you very much, Aura.:dance:

I think after that point, I need to ask my questions about Windows 10 upgrade on the related pages.

Best
