Please follow these instructions to replace the corrupt files:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Your CBS log indicates a lot of corrupt files and some unusual registry problems.

I'd like to gather some more information before we continue.

This script will automatically collect and upload the COMPONENTS registry hive and CBS logs:
SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. [sfcfixdownload]Download SFCFix[/sfcfixdownload] (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

I would like some more registry information:

Export Component Based Servicing

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  7. Right Click on the ComponentBasedServicing file on your Desktop and choose Send To -> Compressed (Zipped) Folder.

Once done please upload ComponentBasedServicing.zip via DropBox OneDrive or SendSpace
Include the link with your reply.

Let's try this:

Step 1 - Replace Components Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download COMPONENTS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the COMPONENTS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current COMPONENTS file and select rename. Rename it to COMPONENTS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Components folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

https://www.sendspace.com/file/u8mcqx

Step 2 - Purge Restore Points

  • Download Delfix from here.
  • Open the program and check only "Purge system restore" and "Create registry backup".
  • Click Run.
Note: The program will run for a few moments and then notepad will open with a log. Please paste the log in your next reply.

Step 3 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start
    w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  3. When DISM finishes scanning your component store, zip up and attach your CBS log to your next post:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

If CBS.zip is too large to attach, use a file sharing service such as DropBox, OneDrive, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

I can't rename the existing components file. I have rebooted 3 times, even a hard boot and every time I get a "File is open in SYSTEM. Please close the file and try again" error.

Let's try it from safe mode.

1. Press Win + R then type msconfig.exe in the Run box.
2. Cick the Boot tab then check the Safe boot box. Click OK.
3. You will be asked to reboot your computer. Click Restart.

Once in safe mode, use the previously downloaded COMPONENTS zip and instructions to replace the components hive.

Run MSCONFIG again, uncheck the safe boot box under the boot tab then click OK. Click Restart.

Sorry Paul, I was having Internet issues over the weekend.

I'll be working on a fix for some of the registry problems today.

OK, I've got a bunch of registry fixes in this script.

There were a few I don't have on my system, so the last bit of the log that SFCFix displays at the end should contain a trace of which update they come from (if possible).
