[h=2]SFC.DLL issues. Don't know what to do from here.[/h]
I am slowly learning this sort of computer stuff. But this I am stuck. It has been a few months since Im getting this problem. Up until a few days ago it hasnt been necessarily an issue, but an annoyance.

This may be two sided question, but I am suspecting it is related.
System: Operating System Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i5 @ 2.90GHz 40 °C
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. B75M-D3V (Intel Core i5-2310 CPU @ 2.90GHz) 28 °C
Graphics
HP 2159 (1920x1080@60Hz)
S230HL (1920x1080@60Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (EVGA) 35 °C
Storage
931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EZEX-00BN5A0 ATA Device (SATA) 30 °C
Optical Drives
ASUS DRW-24B1ST c ATA Device
DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device
ELBY CLONEDRIVE SCSI CdRom Device
Audio
High Definition Audio Device

So the past few months I am getting an error anytime I try to install any software, or open many different games or programs. Attached are the error messages. It often will come in sets of 2. However it has not actually prevented anything from running or installing except one older game. My first issue is... what is causing this? I ran SFC scanner in an elevated command prompt and it says it has issues but it cant fix them.

This may be entirely unrelated.... but I also for the last 2-3 months get this pop up that my windows OS isn't genuine. However it was purchased through University of Phoenix as a digital copy so it should be genuine. When I input my license key into Microsoft's thingy to check if its genuine, it says that key is not even though Speccy, and the system specs page both say it is. Like I said it may be unrelated, but not entirely sure because the time frames are pretty close from getting this error and that genuine windows popup.

The second part that is seemingly related to the first issue is all kinds of messed up. I went to play the Star Wars Battlefront beta and it said I had to have a more current driver. Nvidia has always kept it up to date so I opened up Geforce experience and it says this( see attached) So I figured it might just be a Geforce issue... downloaded current driver from website, tried to install and get this ( see attached). So I tried to uninstall... And I get this ( see attached) Even CCleaner gives me that error when I try to remove any Nvidia components.

What other info do you need?

You guys are awesome. Thank you for any and all help! trying to avoid a wipe because I am worried I am going to run into issues activating my Windows 7.

Ps: HHere are results from niemero's SFCFIX tool.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. It does seem you have a lot of different issues going on. Let's first address the corruption and any windows update/servicing issues. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - SFC Scan
  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

When I use the %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt command in elevated CMD, it says access is denied.

Also an update with the windows genuine popup....the popup must be an error. When i entered my CD Key on microsofts website to download the WIN7 files, it says its valid, and system specs say it is genuine. I am debating whether a fresh install would be good at this point, its been about a year and a half.

I believe you may have forgot the word copy.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

If you want to do a fresh install, that's fine. Just let me know. Up to you.

Thank you. There is more corruption that needs addressed. Please do the following.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Also am curious... where do you suppose all of these corruptions came from? Was it something with the windows update itself? or something more malicious? I have malwarebytes and avast runing, so I didn't think it was a virus or something.

Thanks!

The corruption usually comes from a hardware issue or event. Possibly bad memory in the computer or a power outage while the computer is on that shuts it down, etc. It's hard to know for sure.

Step#2 - Re-run System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file or use the file you previously downloaded.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.

It doesn't appear that you used the correct file for the fix. Please re-do the instructions in Post#9. It appears you used the same SFCFix.zip file from Post#2. Please ensure you delete any existing SFCFix.zip files off of your desktop to avoid any confusion.

Thanks.

New SFCFIX file txt

Sorry about that I did forget to delete the first one.

Thanks. Please do the following. Ensure you delete the existing sfcfix.zip file.

4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Items for your next post
1. SFCFix.txt
2. CheckSUR.log

Ok this should be correct. SFC Fix first, then CheckSUR afterwards

Excellent. All your corruption is now resolved. We needed to do that before we looked at any other issues. Can you go to Windows Update and download/install any important/recommended updates?

only updates are optional, one for each of my monitors, nvidia graphics adapter, then 4 for windows 7 (KB2574819, KB2592687, KB2830477, KB3080079) but they are all optional.

Good. So our first issue is resolved. All Windows Update/Servicing corruption has been resolved. You should no longer get the sfc_os errors that you were getting.

I'm assuming at this point the only errors you are getting are related to NVidia. Can you confirm?

Actually it appears that the Nvidia issue has been remedied as well... was still saying the same error, I downloaded driver from their website, it installed fine, and now Geforce Experience is working normal. Dual Fix woohoo!

SO my only issue now, is this " windows is not genuine" error, even though it says its genuine everywhere else. the popup puts everything to the back which can be awfully annoying in games. I have been on comp since the fix earlier, so I will let you know if this is still an ongoing issue, or if it was remedied as well.

Also another quick question... is there a better tool than CCleaner to tidy up my computer? As I mentioned its been a year and a half about, since i reformatted, and I have ALOT of files from deleted games and programs sitting around. First time I used CCleaner it removed around 15gb of useless junk. I also have Defraggler for keeping it defragmented. Any other suggestions/recommendations? Is it a possibility that one of those tools caused this issue?

Great. Let me know.

CCleaner is a good tool but don't use the registry cleaning part of the tool. This is dangerous and will likely cause more harm than good. If you did use CCleaner's registry cleaning feature then yes it's very likely that it caused some of your issues.
