Hi there Sysnative gurus and thank You for the excellent site. Now I don't know who to turn to with this problem; My PC seems to work 9/10 fine so that's pretty good for my stuffed system but it's annoying that sfc /scannow reports problems and then I have tried to fix them with SFCFix but it can't repair them either. I rebooted before running those tools.

The attached report shows 8 problems and that it has fixed one, but only shows one corrupt file that it cannot fix; MSDTC.LOG. Also the strange thing is that after every SFCFix it shows that one problem solved and it shows the same problem solved every time, so I guess it hasn't really solved anything conclusively. That "fixed" error deals with the file named MTXOCI.DLL. So it "fixes" it every single time I run SFCFix.

And one another thing; the screen capture of the SFCFix result initial "command prompt window" shows that "checking file CheckSUR.log" and that "persist" file also. Those files I cannot find at all on my system.

So attached is a ZIP file including 3 files which should help. I recreated CBS.LOG so it's now as small as possible; only one SFC /SCANNOW results included.

I hope You guys can give me a Christmas present and I humbly hope that You can help me. These errors are so annoying.

Thank You Sysnative in advance. This site rocks!

One another thing; Initially, when I discovered these errors - as a ran SFCFix (after SFC) just for the fun of it - I tried to search this file MSDTC.LOG but it didn't even exist on my system. Weird.. So I created one. As empty file and I thought that maybe OS will eventually stuff it with the correct data. But fixings still showed errors. So then I checked my laptop and that MSDTC.LOG was there so I opened it just out of curiosity at first and found out that okay.. the data in it isn't at all so trivial and clear. So as I have installed my laptop and PC from the same DVD, I tried to be utterly smart and just copied that file from my laptop to my PC to the correct directory, rebooted the PC, and ran SFC first, and since it showed errors, then I ran SFCFix and yyyyyep... It still notified the corrupted MSDTC.LOG. So I didn't include this file on my post's attached ZIP-file since I understand now that its completely unique depending on the PC hardware etc.

So if that's of any help, I just wanted to tell You this.

Hi Tommi :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. Let's start by getting a fresh CBS log to see where we're at :)

EndqYRa.png
System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

Hi, Aura and THANK YOU for the reply!! I love You already :) This service of yours is just plain amazing and very, VERY MUCH appreciated not just by me but by all the people struggling with their OS's all over the world.

So here we go - I'm so anxiously waiting for the kind of solution that You can come up with :)

Here is the link to the file CBS.txt: http://www.propalvelut.com/CBS.txt

I put it up on my personal web server but that should be OK, right? I first deleted everything inside of it since it had a bulk of old information about the previous SFC's and SFCFixes that I have done, so now it is 'fresh' and only the current information is included. I hope this helps.

One more thing; I DID try to fix this on my own and actually succeeded in making some correction apparently since the error count dropped from the initial 22 to 'only' 9. I hope that I haven't done anything wrong since even if I have been earlier working as an IT professional for 12 years and have been hassling with Windows OS's for many, many years, these type of 'deep' problems are still way over my expertise.

So take your time to analyze the log-file and I'll be here waiting :)

Thank You!

-Tommi Tiihonen

As long as I'm able to go through the log freely (like it doesn't freeze when I scroll up and down), I'm okay with it :) And from what I can see, only 3 problematic files remains, and we'll replace them using SFCFix :)

Good, let's run SFC to see if the replacement was accepted.

Hi there, Aura.

SFC DID find errors. The Command Prompt window screen capture JPG-file and the fresh and initialized CBS.log file are in a ZIP-file under this link: http://www.propalvelut.com/sfc-tommi.zip

SFCFix resulted in 12 errors, but one thing is fixed; it doesn't alarm anymore every time that this "MXTO****.dll - whatever file it was - has been repaired", so I guess that this file is fixed but I have no idea about these 12 errors.

Hopefully You still have energy to continue helping me ;)

Waiting for Your reply! :)

Thank You, Aura!

Yours, Tommi Tiihonen from Finland

This is weird. According to your CBS.log, SFC didn't find any corruption during it's scan. Let's see if SURT have anything for us.

IGJdB0T.png
System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) - Scan
Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log;
  • Download the right version of SURT for your system;
    • Your version of Windows is:
  • Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go throught the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes);
  • On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log;
  • Attach this log in your next reply;
Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

Thanks for the quick reply! I cold-booted my PC before I ran SFC /SCANNOW but I have NOT yet tried SFCFix again. That 12 errors were the result of sfcfix execution a few hours ago. So I'll first run SFCFix and check weather it still shows those errors and then I'll run SURT. Thanks for helping me! I'll be back. Soon.

- Arnold Schwarzenegger

I'M BACK!!

Good news is that SFCFix now it only found 6 errors, so the cold boot must have been the reason. And it processed the operation very fast. Only took 1-2 seconds.

Here is the link to the ZIP-file just so that you see it: www.propalvelut.com/aura-tommi-01.zip

Now I will run this SURT and again, dear Aura... I'll BE BACK.

-Tommi

One addition:

I quickly checked this file on my own and it seems that all the problems might exist because of the Oracle VirtualBox installation that I have for my Linux environment. I don't have any other Oracle software to my knowledge on my PC, at least I can't remember.. I last time used VirtualBox last summer, but I DID execute VirtualBox earlier today and installed the automatically offered update to it. That was before the cold-boot.

All good no worries, we'll fix these. Follow the instructions below please.

SFC /SCANNOW resulted with errors :( I cold-booted my PC before running it and ran it as Administrator. The fresh CBS.log can be found here: http://www.propalvelut.com/CBS.log

Then I ran SFCFix without the script file and its results are here: http://www.propalvelut.com/SFCFix.zip

I had to ZIP it since the TXT-file shows only BS when downloaded but this way it works.

This is quite a stone in a shoe, isn't it Aura? ;)

So as the results appear to me, there are some 'CSI Payload' files missing - whatever they are :D I'll now do a cold boot again and then I'll execute CMD prompt as an Administrator and run SFC /SCANNOW and possibly SFCFix also (as Admin) and I'll soon provide You with more info. This seems to have fixed 6 problems so I'm anxious to see the results of SFC. I'm sure You are too :D

Thanks!

Hi Aura! Things are progressing. I'll write about that within a few minutes, but I wanted to notify You about something; namely, the ZIP-file You posted, has ONLY the MANIFESTS directory and NOT at all the PACKAGES directory, for some reason. Is that okay or did You accidentally forget it? If You did then SHAME ON YOU!! :D :D :D Just joking, hehe.. :)

Anyway, I'm so anxious waiting You to be online that I cannot help doing these SFC /SCANNOW's and SFCFix's and SURT's again. I have initialized ALL the log files so on my next post within a few minutes will have links to the FRESH log files. I'm doing cold boot between almost every operation AND I am running everything as ADMINISTRATOR. Well, that SURT file doesn't offer that choice but I'm of course the member of the Admins group so I guess that's good then.

I'LL BE BACK!

-Tommi

Alright here, time to fix these manifests files :)

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) - Fix

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread. No one else should follow the instructions below to apply that fix, as it could damage your system. If you need assistance with an issue, please start a new thread and someone will assist you shortly.

Follow the instructions below to fix the errors reported by the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT);
  • Download the attached archive file, Packs.zip and save it on your Desktop;
  • Once it's downloaded, right-click on it and select Extract All...;
  • Check the Show extracted files when complete checkbox, and click on Extract;
  • On completion, a folder will open with two folders inside it, Manifests and Packages;
    • Copy and paste the files of the Manifests folder (if there are any) inside C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests
    • Copy and paste the files of the Packages folder (if there are any) inside C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\servicing\Packages
  • Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again;
  • On completion, attach the log located at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log in your next reply;
Packs.zip

I do not add a Manifests or Packages folder in my Packs.zip archive if we don't need to replace Manifests or Packages, so it's normal :) We need to run a new SFC scan, to see if the payloads we replaced earlier are accepted :) Follow the instructions below please.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.
