[SOLVED] Install NDP461-KB3102436-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU fails with 0x3712

Hi forum,

I saw some great threads with peeps helpin' out with some weird debugs, hope you guys can help me too.

So What I'm trying to do is install VS Community on a fresh W8.1 ( with all ~ 200 updates ).

The installer fails with 0x3712 ( STATUS_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT ).

I did try

sfc /scannow

and

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

With no luck.

No component store corruption detected.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Anyone care to take a look at the CBS logs ? or anything else ?

So .. I've unpacked that file .. and the logs say that the thing that fails is this:

Using the .NET Collect Utility


  1. Download collect.exe and save to your desktop.
  2. Go ahead and run the tool
  3. The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the needed logs to %TEMP%\vslogs.cab.
  4. Please zip/attach to this post or if too large, send using a service such as SendSpace.

2. Click Turn Windows features on or off.
3. In a few moments you should see the Windows Features window fill up with the available options that you can select and deselect.
4. Can you tell me if there is a black square or checkbox within the white squares of ".NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)" and ".NET Framework 4.5 Advanced Services"?

No, I don't have an intention to migrate to W10 .. but I did want to try at some point ( 'been trying so much to make this work and thought rather than reinstall (which I'm very keen on not doing) .. to give W10 a chance .. now I'm back at being stubborn and trying to figure out what's wrong with this one ).

The link you gave me downloads the same file ( NDP461-KB3102436-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe ) that VS 2015 community with update wants to install.
I did try the offline and online versions. With no luck.
 
No problem. Just like to check. Couple more questions.

1. Do you have your Windows 8.1 DVD?
2. Is yours an OEM or Retail copy?
3. Have you tried uninstalling the .NET Framework and Re-installing? (Don't do it...just want to gather some info first)

I do have my en_windows_8.1_with_update_x64_dvd_6051480.iso ( MSDN Subscriber Downloads ) from my MSDN account.
I did check the SHA1 and all is ok. I don't exactly know what type it is, does it matter ?
This is a VM that's running directly on an SSD ( so no snapshots ...)
Yes, I did try to uninstall/reinstall .. used a cleanup tool (https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2008/08/28/net-framework-cleanup-tool-users-guide/).. a repair tool (Download Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool from Official Microsoft Download Center)

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

I assume those file in sfcfix.zip were taken from the cab file that's trying to install them (NDP461-KB3102436-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU\x64-Windows8.1-KB3102467-x64.cab) . In the last cbs.log file I saw that there was still one missing: mscorlib.dll for x86 and amd64 so I took the liberty to add them to the sfcfix.zip file in the Winsxs folder, re-apply and try again.
Hope I didn't mess it up.

The error remains, here's the newer version of cbs.log @ Microsoft services
 
Very odd. Are you willing to try a Repair install? All of your programs and data will remain intact. This just repairs the OS install. You should be able to use your MSDN download as it has multiple versions in it. Just make sure you have your product key.
