Hello,

I've tried multiple times to install kb3012997 with no success. I'm receiving Error 800F0831 and run the troubleshooter which states that problems to the error have been fixed.All other updates have installed successfully. Running Windows 8.1.
I did tried everything I found so far but I still can't get this fixed.

Thanks for all your help!

I have try to use the SFCFix.exe to attach the report as asked in the post relating to the requirements to post a new thread however the program fails to create the report because of an error.
Error: 0x800f0906
Unable to download the source files.

However I did run a sfc scan and here is the CBS report.

Hi Aura!

I think you fixed it because no corruption were found. I am waiting your green light to try the update again.

Have a good day!

Alright, please try to install the update again :) If it fails, upload the two logs below for me to review.

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

It looks like an issue with your BITS service. Press on Windows + R keys, type in services and press on Enter. Find the Background Intelligent Transfer Service in the list.
What is its current state/status?
If you right-click on it and select Start, does it works?

Indeed there was an issue with my BITS service which was stopped and impossible to run however a restart fixed this problem.
After restarting the update finally started without problems and ended with one other problem I attached the logs.

Thank you for your help :smile9:

Follow the instructions below please.

Retrieving the COMPONENTS Hive
Follow the instructions below to retrieve your COMPONENTS Hive and send me it.
  • Open your Windows Explorer, and navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\Config folder;
  • In this folder, find the COMPONENTS file (there's no extension), and copy it to your Desktop;
    Note: If you receive an error message saying that the COMPONENTS file is in use, restart your computer and try again. If the error message persist, let me know.
  • Right-click on it, and select Send to... and choose Compressed (zipped) folder;
  • Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;

I don't think that it is useful to upload the CBS & WU logs because it says the update is already installed on your computer. However it is strange because I can not find it on the WU history.

Let's try to uninstall it then.

Unistall complete! Do you want me to reinstall it now with the link you provided 2 message ago?

No need. Please try to install the Windows Update you can't install (KB3012997) and if you can't install it, upload the new CBS.log and WindowsUpdate.log for me please :)
