Hello guys,
The somewhat common problem has struck my computer (Win7 Home Premium 64bit).
I guess, once the service is started in an attempt to check for updates it just goes to 25% cpu usage and does nothing more.
Everything was fine till yesterday or the day before, and all updates have been done to that point.

Things I tried to no avail:
- Restarting the service - will start consuming cpu shortly after (stopping it helps to avoid cpu usage but can't use windows update like that).
- Tried deleting SoftwareDistribution folder.
- Tried Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components.
- Tried WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab - brings out Windows Update error 0x80070057 and problem installing recent updates - fixing doesn't help.
- Tried MicrosoftFixit50202 (Reset update components).
- Tried uninstalling and reinstalling KB3050265 (windows update client)

I should mention that there has been for a while a problem wherein HD has been marked "dirty" and so every startup I'm asked to go thorough a sfc scan, which I skip as it takes to long and never seems to complete and maybe stuck. As such, I'm unable to go back to a previous restore point to maybe solve the problem...

Anyway -

sfc /scannow - didn't find integrity violations.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.:smile9:

Right, So it seems my problem has been resolved! At least for the time being.

What I did was to install and run WSUS Offline Update.
Whatever it did (attached the log of it), I guess it managed to reset the process as it was installing some updates.
After a system restart I was able to check for remaining updates, install them, reboot again and so far so good.

Sorry if anyone started to work out a solution for me.
But I hope this status will remain. :wink11a:

Carry on!
