Hello,

I have Windows 7 x64 Pro SP1. I can't update windows since a long time ago, it always shows the error C80003FA, and also have SFC corruptions and daily BSOD.
I used to run the windows update troubleshooting but now it just stopped working.
I run the sfc /scannow once a week, and sometimes it doesn't finish and also run the chkdsk /r once a week and it always shows some fixes.
I suspect that is something wrong with the hard drive because before this windows I had vista and windows 8, but it kept showing the same troubles.

I attached the files from the posting instructions.

English isn't my first language so let my know if you didn't understand me.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello qqq,

I'd like to check the health of your disk.

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

  • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe; To extract you can right-click your mouse on the GSmartControl.zip file and select Extract.
  • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
  • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);

Hi, thanks for answer me.

I had to perform the GSmartControl in Safe Mode because it didn't start in Normal Mode, it showed "GSmartControl stopped working". The test result was "Completed without error".
There were no red or pink entries in "Attributes" and in the "Failed" column all displayed "never".

Wow, those stop codes are all over the place. I'd recommend completing the troubleshooting in that thread before continuing here.
I assume you aren't overclocking?

It seems that, for the moment, they canĀ“t help me on the other thread. I did another SURT + SFCFix and it changed. Xilolee recommended me that I uploaded to you the results.

Well... I ****ed it up badly.

After doing another surt/sfc/sfcfix routine I ran ccleaner and then defraggler. When it was defragging suddenly I got the notification that I had pending updates, so I looked windows updates and had like 100 updates. I didn't downloaded because the same thing happened two years ago and when I clicked update all, my computer couldn't start, so this time I searched if there was really important update and found out that "KB3125574 Convenience rollup for W7 SP1" is important. That one wasn't on the list so I had to search it manually. I installed only that one and then I couldn't start my computer again, I only get BSODs. I did several CHKDSK / SFC / BOOTREC / Restore system and other repair options but no one could fix it, so I had to reinstall W7.

The first thing I did when I started windows was a SFC, and it had errors. SURT and SFCfix showed 1 error with a .dll but I could fix it by renaming the catroot2 folder. I could install KB3125574 manually but my main problem is still there, I can't run Windows Update with error C80003FA (I had a BSOD when I tried to update the first time).

Right now SURT and SFCfix shows no errors, but sfc still does. So i'm uploading the zips to see if there is something I can fix.

It looks like one of the mui files (es-ES) was repaired. This should not be causing a BSOD.

This seems like a hardware problem since you have reinstalled Windows already.
I would suspect bad capacitors on the motherboard. Please check very closely if the top of each capacitor on the board is flat (as it should be), or if it is bulging or has vented.

I checked very carefully and all capacitors looked fine, but i'm no expert. I removed one of my memory sticks, they're the same size but different manufacturers and different frequencies. I run sfc and still shows errors and can't update, but now it just keeps searching endlessly for updates and shows no errors. I run the FixIt WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.cab tool from windows and there it showed error 0x800700005.

It seems like it was the memory differences. I started to install manually some updates and suddenly windows update began working normally again, and now I have no sfc errors. Everything is working correctly now. I'll post if something else happens.

Excellent. I'll mark the thread solved.

I'll continue to assist you if you post back.
