Dear Sysnative,

I am experiencing the 2 problems in the title of my thread and am unable to download / install updates to Windows and other Microsoft software. This problem first occurred last Saturday 15th October when I was handling updates over an unsteady internet connection (as it turned out). I was also having problems updating Windows Defender (seems OK now). My wife experienced similar problems and we have 2 problem machines with the same 2 problems. Thankfully, everything we need to work is working (or so it seems) save for the fact that we can't update our systems.

I found some seemingly helpful pages at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/i-got-an-error-code-from-windows-update and have pretty much tried everything posted on there.

In particular, having run sfc /scannow as suggested by your expert Tekno Venus in the GUIDE about CNBJ2530.DPB and prncacla.inf corruptions (which showed sfc could not repair CNBJ2530.DPB), I proceeded to download and run SFCFix.exe which got to the end and stated it had fixed CNBJ2530.DPB.

Alas, it hadn't as a manual check for Windows updates still failed (Error 8024402F) and on running sfc / scannow again revealed similar 'cannot repair' problems with CNBJ2530.DPB in the CBS.LOG file.

I also ran the Windows update troubleshooter several times which also stated it fixed a couple of problems (including 'potential windows update database error detected 0x80070490) when it fact it hadn't and they recurred.

I suspect that perhaps I need to shut down some other services before attempting to run the internal Windows Update troubleshooter or SFCFix.exe ... or it may be something else completely. ?? Suffice to say I am now stumped as to what to do next.

I am attaching cbs.log (windowsupdate.log is just a bit too big) in the hope this will help you figure out what is going on. Both machines are running Windows 8.1.

One other thing which may help you - both machines hadn't been used for 3 weeks or so and are in Poland as we travel to and from England on a regular basis ... so there was much to download and update.

Accordingly I'd be most grateful for some much appreciated assistance in sorting out my problem. Many thanks!

Kind regards,
Slav Paleolog
