https://www.sysnative.com/forums/members/59-niemiro/Good morning all.

I'm ever so sorry but i'm not computer literate so please bear with me.

On another post on here, i asked for help because my pc has had new parts fitted etc but since i have had it back, (windows 7) windows did about half a dozen updates then stopped.

Corrine on here asked me to follow a couple of links she had put on the bottom of her post to which i followed............however, that was me lost because there was so much information and my last remaining brain cell packed it's bags and left me !

One of the things i did succeed in doing was Niemiro's thing, SFCfix...................

SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.

I also did a screen shot of my windows update too...........

Now i know it says, check for updates, it is set to automatically check everyday 03.00 but it doesn't.
Also, when i manually click check for updates, all i get is the horizontal bar going backwards & forwards and nothing happens.

I have done a screen shot of all windows updates too here (sorry Corrine, i thought it was half a dozen.....it's a few more than that)

Any further info that is required, please let me know but most of all...........Thank you for any help that is given :thumbsup2:

- "Windows Update" (WU) had some severe problems since say the 2nd quarter of 2016. And you're not the only one who is experiencing this kind of problem. I had these problems as well.
- I see that you installed .NET software version v4.00 and I saw with my own eyes that - at least - this .NET version "breaks" WU. (Do other .NET versions "break" WU as well ??)
- Since the SFCfix tool didn't report any corrupted files, you could try this guide:

Solve Windows Update problem (High CPU & memory usage)

(Don't rush it. Take your time. Add this weblink to your favourites, for future use)

Hi Willy2.

I have looked at the link you put up and i'm sorry to say, i haven't the foggiest idea which one to download.

It looks to overwhelming i'm sorry to say.

Thank you anyway.

- I can imagine that a newbie is overwhelmed. To solve this problem is NOT simple. Even MS has problems tackling this problem.
- First, remove .NET v4.00 with e.g. Piriform's Ccleaner. How did you end up with .NET v4.00. ? Did Windows Update offer you this version ? If so, then it shows that MS still has A LOT OF work to do.
- Does your system have high CPU & memory usage (See Step 1 in my guide) ? If so, the follow the instructions in reply #24 in this thread:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...ry-slow-scan-times-when-checking-updates.html

- My recommendation is to select the Windows Update setting "Notify but let me decide". It will prevent you from becoming a guinea pig for MS when it coomes to new updates.
- Install a newer version of .NET software. Stay away from version v4.00. I had no problems after installing .NET v4.52. Run Windows Update again and select & install all the .NET updates offered for v4.52, both "Important" & "Optional".

Willy, thank you for your kind help.

I'm sorry it took so long to reply etc, where i live in the uk, my internet is from the stone age.

I went through slowly what was written up on my screen and once it said windows updates etc, i couldn't believe how many there were, 337 main updates and goodness knows how many of the non important ones.

So, i'm now up and running thanks to you kind helpful folks on Sysnative :thumbsup2:

- It was a problem that was (comparatively) easy to solve. Other users who come here and ask for help have much more complicated WU problems.
