[SOLVED] [Win7SP1Ult x64] error 80073701 for KB4015549

Hey folks! My PC has been fine up until the last windows update. Everything downloaded and installed fine except for KB4015549(April, 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems). It will download it but every time it tries to install it comes back as failed with error 80073701. Things I've tried:


  • manually downloading and installing the update: Failed
  • did sfc /scannow: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
  • Windows Update Troubleshooting Tool: Failed(see output.txt and dism.log in zip)
  • SFCFix: "SUMMARY: No corruptions were detected."(see attached zip)
  • FRST64: see attached zip

My system info is:
  • Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
  • Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
  • Memory: 12,288MB RAM
  • HDD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB ATA Device

I do still need assistance. Nothing I've been able to do has helped, and everything remains as originally stated in my first post.

I'm fine with waiting since this hasn't caused any issues on my PC, it's just something I'm going to need fixed eventually of course. Thanks :)
 
Please start with the following.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.
 
Sorry if I'm making this needlessly complicated but I ran the SUR when I had more than 15 mins to spare and it just would not end. I had to stop it and turn the computer off for the night, we can't leave it running otherwise we won't get any sleep.

I tried running it again this morning and it didn't do anything, but I noticed I now had a bunch of new windows updates(coincidental?), so I went ahead and installed those. I still get one with the same error that I originally posted about though so I wasn't sure if I should try running this SUR again now that all that's out of the way? Here's what it all looks like now:

Please start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

FYI, I'll probably get back to you with this on 5/14. I'll be out of town tonight and tomorrow for an exam.
 
Please do the following.

Remove Update Manually
 1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:3212646

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.
 
Just says:

Not sure why it says that when it shows I installed it successfully back on 1/11/17 in my windows update history.
