[Win7SP1 x64] "Failure configuring Windows 7 updates" every time I try to update
Hello, all. So a bit of background information:
Previously, I hadn't updated my system since April 2015 because, strangely, the Windows Update stopped working one day. Every time it rebooted after installing the updates, it would reach 99% before showing the bothersome, "Failure configuring Windows 7 updates. Reverting changes." I tried to update again a year later, but Windows Update would just be stuck at "Checking for updates".
A few days ago I decided to tackle this problem once and for all. After searching the web for solutions, I found a post that instructed me to manually install KB3020369, KB3125574, KB3138612, and KB3145739. I successfully installed only 3 of them, however (KB3125574 failed). Fortunately, that fixed the "Checking for updates" issue. I was confident that all of my issues were gone right then and there but nope. After a reboot to install the updates, the installation reached 99% before showing the dreadful, "Failure configuring Windows 7 updates. Reverting changes". Upon checking the update history, I saw that the only successful updates were Office-related. Anything system-related failed, except for a few (7, to be exact).
I've tried a bunch of methods from clean boot to DISM (showed no errors) to Windows Update Troubleshooter (also showed no errors) to SURT to SFCFix (kudos, by the way, fixed all 2 of my CBS & SFC corruptions), and nothing worked.
Couldn't upload the entire CBS folder as it was too large, and couldn't use the SFCFixScript for the large file uploader since the link no longer works, so uploaded it to Dropbox if that's alright.
