Hi,

Windows 7 Pro SP1 x86 system, on which KB3108664 fails daily with error 0x80073712

Otherwise, Windows Update is working, all other updates are being installed. Only KB3108664 fails, whether run through Windows Update or manually.

I've run SURT and DISM and I see the corruption, but I don't know how to fix it. I've seen the first answer here: windows 7 - How do I fix the errors listed in this CheckSUR.log file? - Super User but the instructions are not complete and have some inaccuracies.

I ran SFCfix and got some errors:

Hi again,

So I reread the first answer here windows 7 - How do I fix the errors listed in this CheckSUR.log file? - Super User and I saw where I went wrong.

So I downloaded the KB3108664 MSU and expanded it like so:

:: expand does not create folders for you, that's a gotcha
md msuexpanded\cab
expand -f:* Windows6.1-KB3108664-x86.msu msuexpanded\
expand -f:* msuexpanded\Windows6.1-KB3108664-x86.cab msuexpanded\cab\

I now have to rename update.cat and update.mum, and move the files into the correct Subdirectory of %WINDIR%\Temp\CheckSUR\ before I run DISM.

But I'm stumped by one thing:

I have 2 file folders in the expanded cab directory:
x86_microsoft-windows-mapi_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.19073_none_ad12945a783397fe
x86_microsoft-windows-mapi_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.23278_none_ada1347d914cb3a2

These folders contain 3 files: fixmapi.exe, mapi32.dll and mapistub.dll

The problem is, I don't know which folder to move these folders into in the %WINDIR%\Temp\CheckSUR\ folder structure so DISM can pick them up.

Ummmmmmmmm.....

help ? :confused2:

Thanks in advance.

Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Update will still not install, same error as before.

Did you see my 2nd post, above, about where to put the folders?
