Greetings!

Running Windows 7 Pro.

**I read the upload instructions carefully and generated the CBS.zip file. However, it fails to upload here because it is 20.7 MB in size. Upon further probing, I noticed the possibility of using SFCfixscript, but it is no longer available for download at the link shown. So, I am at a loss to not be able to upload the CBS.zip file. Alternative suggestions for doing this welcome.

Download CBS.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way**

Summary of the problem:

a) Yesterday, soonafter windows update KB4034664 was applied, the system failed to reboot, resulting in BSOD and error 0xC2. Additionally, the BSOD screen indicated a problem with NDIS.SYS.

b) Booting into safe mode, I attempted to delete the update, but it also gave errors.

c) I attempted system restore next (again from Safe Mode and from Windows Repair Disk), but none of the previously saved restore points could be used.

d) Finally, I used a registry backup made by Revo Uninstaller Pro (RUP) to get back to my earlier state. That is, following the instruction provided by RUP.

Revo Uninstaller Pro - Restore Full Registry Backup

This allowed me to boot back into normal mode.

e) Subsequently, I attempted SFC /scannow and found errors. This is what led me to this forum.

Please find enclosed SFCfix log (pasted below) and the contents of CBS directory.

Any help to resolve this problem would be highly appreciated.
Cathy

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named softwaremaniac. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Thanks, Brian. I have no objections to SoftwareManiac being part of the troubleshooting operations. Much obliged.

Thanks,

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Attach the file into your next post for me to analyze.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
