I have been directed by Corrine Chorney that I may be able to get some assistance in figuring out what is wrong with it. I did a sfc /scannow under cmd. It tells me Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them details are included in the CBS.log log windir\logs\CBS\CBS.log for example C:\windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log I sound like I have a clue as to what I am talking about but I dont. I looked at another thread and I believe I can get the log if someone would be able to tell me what to do once I get it. Thanks for any assistance anyone can give me.:confused2:

Hello Marie, welcome to Sysnative!

Don't worry, we have worked with people of all levels of ability with computers in the past so we'll get through this. I will try my best to explain things in as much detail as possible, but if you don't understand anything I have instructed you to do, please stop and ask.

Export CBS.log

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and then click Computer
  2. Double click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder, and then inside that folder, the CBS folder
  4. Right-click on the CBS.log file, and select Copy. It may show as just CBS (without the .log extension). Do not be concerned, and proceed to copy the file.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a file on your Desktop called CBS(.log)
  6. Right-click on this file again, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder
  7. Another new file, also called CBS, but this time with a different icon, will be created. Please upload this new file to the forum, here

Hi Marie,

If you click on the Go Advanced button in the bottom right hand corner of the post reply box, you will be taken to another post editor with more features. On the top row of icons above the text editor, you should see what looks like a paper clip and a sheet of paper, click on it, a new window titled Manage Attachments should appear. Click Add Files, then Select Files and select the file that you wish to upload, in this case the CBS.zip file on your Desktop, then click Upload Files. Click on Insert Inline then close the attachments window. The file will now be attached to your post, so enter some text in the post box and post it :)

I tried the first portion of your e-mail and it came back
Windows update Standalone Installer
wusa </? there was straight down line h straight down line /help>
wusa <update> [/quiet] [/no restart]
/?,/h,/help - display help information
update - full path of MSU file
/quiet - Quiet mode, no user interactions, reboot as needed
/no restart - When combined with /quiet , installed will not initiate reboot. It is ignored it is used alone

I dont know what this means and I couldnt figure out how to make a straight line down in front and behind the h

Hi Marie,

Sorry for the confusion, I meant for you to copy and paste the whole command (there is just one command there) into command prompt. I suspect the reason for confusion was due to my instructions referring to commands and other plurals indicating that there was more than one, well this is a fault at my end I'm afraid - because we post the same instructions to so many people, we have post templates saved to make our lives easier and my template is usually for many commands and I adapt it, however, on this occasion, I forgot to do so.

I have amended my instructions in my post, so could you try again please:

Just to make things crystal clear, wusa /uninstall /kb:2761494, is one command and you should copy and paste all of it (beginning wusa, ending 94) into command prompt.

Hi Marie,

Let's try another way then:

Batch File

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download the attached file, Fix.bat, and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Locate fix.bat on your Desktop and right click then select Run as administrator.
  3. The batch file will now run so follow any on screen prompts and let me know if there are any errors.

Tom
