Okay tom982, here is my original post as you suggested I do. Thanks for helping by the way.

I did NOT include any log files as I have now tried many new help suggestions and offerings.

What ever new logs files you want, just let me know, or what ever steps you desire me to take.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

IE9 ABOUT info:
version 9.0.8112.16421
Updates versions 9.0.6 (KB2675157)

Problem:

This IE9 mentioned above is working fine.

I can not update to IE10, ERROR 9c59

I can NOT uninstall IE9

If I download ie9 or 10 manually, they will NOT install.

IE9 is ALSO listed in the OPTIONAL updates section (Weird hey?)
IE10 is obviously listed in the the Main update section, which is where I get the error 9c59

I even went as far as uninstalling AV software, and that didn't help either.

IE10 is NOT listed as installed.

I have already cleaned this system from virus and malware, as well as CCleaner. I used Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Hitman Pro, and Avast. Sytem is fast and works great other than the problem mentioned.

Here's your problem:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

When that has finished, download and install this update:

Download Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 7 x64 Edition (KB2699988) from Official Microsoft Download Centre

The reboot, try to update again then zip up your CBS folder and attach it to your next post please :)

This is a laptop with a pentium processor. Why the AMD64 in those 5 errors? Or does AMD64 in this case mean something entiriely different?

AMD were the first to bring x64 CPUs to the mass market so Windows named 64 bit files with AMD64 in the name. It's perfectly normal :)

Ok. I will await the next steps once I come in from work, about 9 or 10 hours from now.

Thanks for all this great help.

Tom you are the man! I did a reboot, it did the IE9 update during bootup and startup. IE9 notification gone!

Then I did the IE10 update, and it worked, as that is what I am using at the moment. I thank you very much. It is nice to see people who share their knowledge. I am a PC tech myself, and this was the first situation is yearsssssss that I could not fix myself. If you was my neighbor, you'd deserve a good steak dinner. Thank you again, God bless you.

I do have one question. Before this, when I was in the other forum, and you kindly invited me here, the SFC /SCANNOW did say some files were repaired, some were NOT.

Which forum should I visit now? And do you recommend I run SFC again, or just let it be since all seems to be working at 100%.

Hi Ron,

I have to say, I'm quite surprised that fixed it! The packages I replaced were from an IE9 update, and would've caused problems if your computer needed to update IE9 or move to IE10, but I didn't think a corrupt package could've caused your other symptoms! I'm just glad it's all sorted now.

Let's run one last SFC to double check:

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Tom

Tom again thanks, but we will let this case close for now. Unfortunately I had to let this laptop go back so the child could use it for homework. It is working great.

Later on if it's returned, I may follow up this issue.

Anyways, problem solved, Windows Update is working great, and IE10 is going strong.
