Hi pat! :smile9:
What OS are you using?
What antivirus are you using?
What firewall are you using?
Are you using an SSD hard disk drive as a system partition?
Have you tried to launch sfc /scannow (from an elevated command prompt)?
Does it show errors? (like: couldn't repair some files)
If it shows errors, run this command from an elevated command prompt (put your pc username in place of YOUR-USERNAME), post the results here, select them, click show/hide button (when you reply to this post):
Code:
findstr /i /c:"hashes for" /c:"cannot repair" /c:"this component" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log > c:\users\YOUR-USERNAME\desktop\sfcdetails.txt

Hello pat,

I'm really sorry about my late reply. As I think you've seen, we're exceptionally busy here at the moment, and I can only apologise for my delay.

Your problem originates from the errors in your CheckSUR.log. Let's fix them.

SFCFix Script

Warning:
this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFix.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please.

Then re-run the System Update Readiness tool and post the contents of the log please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Tom is currently offline so I'll pop in a second.

Your log looks great now, Tom did a great job fixing you up. Give Windows Update a try again and let me know how it works.

Regards,
Stephen.
