Hello all. I am having quite the annoying occurrence trying to update my system to the latest Service Pack 1.
I am fully able to install all other updates - but for some reason the Service Pack 1 fails.
I have tried reading through the CBS log but I can't make heads or tails of it, unfortunately.

I know that I am getting the Error 80070490 is in regards to a corrupt update package, according to Microsoft's website. I have followed their guide and tried the "System Update Readiness Tool" - I have successfully managed to get that to run THEN attempted the update to Service Pack 1, only for it to unfortunately fail.

If any insights to a solution could be offered that would be fantastic, thanks in advance!

I attempted to attach the log file but it is apparently too big for your website to host - so here is a link to it from dropbox; https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68154585/CBS.zip

Hello DDRKhat, welcome to Sysnative!

Can you boot into the recovery environment, and launch command prompt please: How to use the Windows 7 System Recovery Environment Command Prompt

When command prompt is launched, type in the following command and press enter:

DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

Then reboot your computer, booting into Windows normally. Try to update and if it fails again, upload your new CBS log please!

Hello tom982, thanks for the greeting!

Here is the Clean-up out-put just in case you need it or it shows anything (doesn't look it to me, but...)
Code:
Deployment Image Servicing and Management toolVersion: 6.1.7600.16385

Image Version: 6.1.7600.16385

The scratch directory size might be insufficient to perform this operation. This can cause unexpected behavior.
Use the /ScratchDir option to point to a folder with sufficient scratch space. The recommended size is at least 1024 MB.

Reverting pending actions from the image...
The operation completed. Any revert of pending actions will be attempted after reboot.
The operation completed successfully.

Unfortunately another failure, please find attached the new CBS; https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68154585/CBS-2.zip

Hi DDRKhat,

Let's give this a shot then:

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    fsutil resource setautoreset true %systemdrive%\

    attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*
    del %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*

    attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*
    del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.tm*
    del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.blf
    del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.regtrans-ms

  4. Type Y and press enter if you are asked "Are you sure" to any line.
  5. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
  6. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post please.

Hi Tom982,

I don't think I managed to achieve any of it due to me apparently using said files - was I supposed to be doing this from safe mode / boot disk?

Hi DDRKhat,

Don't worry about those errors - they're perfectly normal. Let's get some new logs and see what we're up against now:
Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please. If it is too big, please use an alternative uploading method then send me the link (Dropbox, SkyDrive, SendSpace etc.).

Tom

Hi Tom982,

It is worth noting that I have not tried to update since, in case that is what you are looking for.

Hello again :)

I am so sorry about the delay here. Can you please zip up and upload C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log?

Thank you,

Richard
