Error 80070002

Started a few months back when I had my Video Card changed from NVID to AMD.

I've tried nearly everything excluding a fresh install of Windows 7.
 
Hmm, how long does it take to get something like this fix'd I'd rather not do a factory reset.

Sorry for the delay; we've been very busy here recently.

Can you boot into the recovery environment, and launch command prompt please: How to use the Windows 7 System Recovery Environment Command Prompt

When command prompt is launched, type in the following command and press enter:

DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

Then reboot your computer, booting into Windows normally. Run this FixIt in aggressive mode: You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services

Then try updating and post your CBS log please :)

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, one by one, pressing enter after each

    fsutil resource setautoreset true %systemdrive%\

    attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*
    del %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*

    attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*
    del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.tm*
    del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.blf
    del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.regtrans-ms

Then download and install the System Update Readiness Tool please:

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2014] from Official Microsoft Download Centre

Zip up the CBS folder as before, and upload it to Dropbox again please!

When I try to do del %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\* it says the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Those errors are perfectly normal, so please continue with my instructions and run the SURT.

I'm very sorry for the late reply here. We have a procedure for when a thread gets missed, and your bumping didn't trigger that system. Please see here for future reference: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/6903-not-received-help.html

Taking a look over your logs, your problem is going to be difficult to fix. It's a really small problem (i.e. not a 1000 separate corruptions, just 1), but a difficult 1.

Click Start > search for regedit, and press enter.

I do not want you to make any changes at all, simple report to me what you find. Use the little arrows next to the keys ("folders") to navigate, and in the right hand pane see the values. Please work through and answer all of my questions.

Please navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\
and let me know whether the following subkey (folder) exists: RebootPending

Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\
and let me know whether the following subkey (folder) exists: RebootRequired

Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS
and let me know whether the following value (right hand pane) exists: ExecutionState

Oh man sorry about that. Didn't know, none of those folders exist.
 
Thats... Not something you tend to want to hear. I'll wait for him to show up. Hopefully he can fix it.
 
Hmmmm. I think Tom's assessment is right to be honest, and a Repair Install really is your best bet.

So basically I need to do a clean install?


Oh well that ain't too bad. I guess... Ill have to get a CD later.
 
Well. It gave me a Windows can not install some components, please restart Windows Startup loop.

So I just cleaned installed it. Seemed to have fix'd the problem. Having to re-install the graphic drives is going to be a pain.
