Hi to All

Joined with hope of getting help in resolving Windows Update Problem 80072EE2, but just noticed that my Norton Internet Security has flagged this web page as "SUSPECT".

Why is that ?

Hi Alan. . .

Welcome to Sysnative Forums.

I have no idea why Norton would flag this page.

I run ESET NOD32 and it says all is well. Same with the server security software.

Re: Hi-just joined with hope of resolvimg Windows Update Problem 80072EE2

Hi jcgriff2

Thank you very much for your quick response.

I did a search for www.sysnative.com on the "Norton Safe Web" page, Report for sysnative.com | Norton Safe Web , & it gives a "[!] Caution" rating, & indicates that the following 2 threats were detected in links on the website :

- Trojan Gen
- Infostealer.Gampass

I will check ESET NOD 32 web site safety rating if available.

Re: Hi-just joined with hope of resolvimg Windows Update Problem 80072EE2

There are no Trojans or keyloggers on this site, I think Norton is giving false positives.
I wouldn't touch that program with a ten foot barge pole, it's garbage.

Jaret

Thank you very much for your response. I suspected that the threat detections were probably false positives.

The "Norton Safe Web" site has a link for website owners (Is This Website Safe | Website Security | Norton Safe Web ) , where presumably Sysnative should be able get Norton to make the necessary correction to it's website safety rating.

Hi again Alan,

You are not the first that has reported Norton's info on this site to us over the years. If it's not the site, it's our apps that Norton flags erroneously. If it's not the apps, it's the site, etc...

I would suggest that you create your intended thread and forget about Noton's info for now.

I assure you that the site is 100% safe.

Hi JC

Thank you very much for your assurance regarding the safety of your website.

Have to sign off for today, so I will create the thread tomorrow.

Welcome to Sysnative, and I wouldn't even trust Norton.

A quick update - After 3 weeks, my Windows Update 80072EE2 problem appears to have spontaneously resolved itself this morning, and I have just downloaded & installed 30 Important Windows Updates, without any problems.

There are also 11 Optional updates available, but have not decided whether to install them, bearing in mind the problems that are sometimes caused by installing Windows Updates. I usually avoid the Optional updates for that reason, although I have noticed that they often get converted to Important Updates.

So there is probably not much point in starting a thread on the Windows Update 80077EE2 problem at this time, unless anyone here thinks that there are some checks that I should do in order to ensure that the problem does not occur again, in which case I would start a new thread.
Please advise.

Alan

It might be a good idea just to confirm no problems do exist, and you shouldn't experience any problems with Windows Update, unless Microsoft have botched an update - which is very unlikely - or there is a problem with your computer.

Hi Alan,

I would advise starting a thread and getting things checked out.

Please follow these instructions - https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/4736-windows-update-forum-posting-instructions.html

If nothing else, SFCFix app will give you a clean bill of health.

Hi Alan and welcome to Sysnative

To give another opinion on Norton for you:

It does very shallow scans of programs and does not want anything touching the system that it hasn't white-listed.

Since many of our programs do touch the system(Debugging, solving problems, etc) it is not surprising that it flags them.

Interestingly, one of the programs it flagged has been used for many years and has helped solve tens of thousands of problems.

----------
Regardless, like everyone else I can assure you our site and programs are 100% safe :thumbsup2:

For info, Norton didn't flag the site, Alan, it flagged 2 of our compiled apps that OPs have been running for several years now. There is nothing wrong with the 2 apps.

Re: Hi-just joined with hope of resolvimg Windows Update Problem 80072EE2

Hi JC

Yesterday Sun 2 Aug 15, I created the new thread , "Windows Update Error 80072EE2 & SFCFix Results", at sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/15929-windows-update-error-80072ee2-sfcfix-results.html .

I forgot to reference this thread, or quote your reply above of 31 Jul 15, 8:52pm in the new thread, & cannot edit it now to do that.
To correct this oversight, I will add a reply in my opening post of the new thread.

Hi Laxer, Jared , JC & Blue Robot

Norton Internet Security provides both Anti-Viirus & Firewall Protection, and has a host of other features which I find quite useful.

However, as result of all the negative comments on Norton that have been posted here, I would consider switching to another combination of Anti-virus and Firewall software.

Would appreciate any recommendations that you & other Sysnative members can give.

I suppose I should start a new thread on this topic. Where should I create it ?

Hi Alan,

I am no security expert so please keep in mind these are just my opinions.

Most mainstream anti-virus software is pretty good about catching most threats, where I draw the distinction is how they do it and the reputation of the company.

On my desktop I am not particularly picky as I have plenty of resources should I want to use one of the more demanding A/V options. I currently have ESET although in the past I ran primarily AVG.

On my laptop I am much more picky as it is not as strong and I don't want some A/V eating up all my resources or draining my power. I also currently use ESET here as it has a small footprint. In the past I ran MSE.

I personally have nothing against Norton as an A/V besides the fact that it is often bundled with systems as "junk-ware", and IMO it offers no benefits over free alternatives. The limited exposure I have to it was it trying to boss me around(Tell me I need to grant permission, delete "dangerous" files etc) and slowing down the file system.

If Norton works for you and you have a license you might as well stick with it.

Hi JC & Laxer

Thank you very much for your advice.

Will check with Corrine with a post to the Secutity Centre (Arena ?).

Alan

Here is a thread specifically on it I forgot that existed....

What's the best Antivirus?

Also, here is the link to the Security Arena: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/security-arena/
(Sorry for the ambiguity of my last post)

Hi Laxer

Thank you very much for those 2 links.

The popular recommendation of MSE Anti-Virus in the "What's the best Antivirus?" thread, probably answers my question regarding an Anti-Virus alternative to the Anti-Virus component of Norton Internet Security, but I need a recommendation for an alternative to the "Anti-Virus + Firewall" combination of Norton Internet Security.

Win 8 Pro came with Windows Defender, which is probably the same as MSE, plus Windows Firewall, so my question would be, would that combination be a good enough alternative to Norton Internet Security, although it would not have all the features of NIS, but at the same time, it would not be as demanding the computer's resources.

Regards
