[SOLVED] Window Server 2019 fails to install KB5046615

Here's the next fix.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update again. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Hi,

Are you able to clone this server with a tool like Disk2vhd to load the image in a local Hyper-V environment so we can test some other things safely.
 
Hi, I've took an image. I need to move it to another machine though as Hyper-V won't install on the server.
 
Hi,

1. Please install the Japanese (ja-jp) language pack on the clone, but not as default language and reboot the server.
2. Remove the Japanese language from the system, now it should also remove all the associated registry keys for this language pack which are causing issues.
3. Reboot the server again and attempt to update, if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Please provide a new copy of the COMPONENTS hive from the clone.

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

1. Please install the following language packs on the cloned server, but not as default language!
  • German ~ de-DE
  • English UK ~ en-GB
  • Spanish ~ es-ES
  • French ~ fr-FR
  • Italian ~ it-IT
  • Korean ~ ko-KR
  • Polish ~ pl-PL
2. Reboot the server and remove all the language packs above which were partially installed!
3. This will remove all the associated registry keys for this language packs which are causing issues.
4. Reboot the server again and attempt to update, if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Please set en-US as default first, it seems en-GB is also partially installed! So I would revert this clone to en-US only without any other Language Packs.

After rebooting when I removed the language packs it updated to 100% then started again and failed.
