Re: [W7 SP1 x64] Can't install update kb4056894 and others.
Long story short: what I ended up doing is nuke every windows update that can be nuked (left only a few "permanent" ones that couldn't be removed). Also removed some other software (mostly to free space as I was ready to do upgrade reinstall). After all that still had trouble with that update. Then removed IE11 - still no results. Then removed Chrome and Citrix Receiver (wonder if this one had anything to do with the problem), did some sfc repairs (looks like repairs were related to IE11 removal) and voila the kb4056894 installed successfully. Tried the other update that didn't want to install and that went in too. Rebooted and let all the important updates (167 of them I think) to install at once. All but one succeeded outright and the remaining went in after a reboot.
Tried for a while to install IE11 but was failing repeatedly until I figured out that it needed one of the recommended updates. Installed that and IE11 went in too.
So on the update front I'm all up to date now.
However I still see these problems:
1. IE11 seem to work without problem on regular user account but exits right away after it is started on admin account. Resetting the internet settings or changing the rendering mode to software doesn't help.
2. Chrome installs fine but doesn't want to check for updates. Says:
Update check failed to start (error code 3: 0x80040154).
3. Citrix Receiver fails with an error 2753 but the IE11 plugin seem to be working fine.
I tried to google solutions for the above but came up with nothing that works so if you have any idea where I might be able to find solutions for those let me know.
In any case thanks for the help. The original problem in this thread could be considered solved.
Thanks again,
Andriy
