[SOLVED] [7SP1 x64] SFC errors, windows updater not working

Re: [W7SP1 x64] SFC errors, windows updater not working

Okay, repeat the process and uninstall IE all the way to IE8. Afterwards, please run SFC and attach the resulting CBS.log. If there's an error at one point, stop and post back.

IE issues are the hardest of them all to resolve, so I need to be aware of everything that happens.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] SFC errors, windows updater not working

Do not see it on any installed programs or updates list.
Just also lost background picture which we will probably take care of later

Re: [W7SP1 x64] SFC errors, windows updater not working

Thank you for the information. Yes, you are right. Let me explain. I work better when I'm focused on a single issue at once, and therefore I'd like to fix IE before moving on to other things :)

You will probably be happy to know that we've significantly reduced the number of errors that need fixed, so I'm seeing some major improvement signs here.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] SFC errors, windows updater not working

nothing wxcept background pictures, but I think I can take care of that

Re: [W7SP1 x64] SFC errors, windows updater not working

Change it manually and see if it stays there.

If everything else is sorted, I'll mark the thread as solved. It was nice working with you. Take care, and if you have any further issues, post back and I'll assist.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] SFC errors, windows updater not working

changed it, is ok. everthing seems to be working ok, except the game that I keep having trouble getting onto, which is partly what led me here in the first place.
Thank you very much for all your help. Do I need to run SFC every once in a while? what about

Re: [W7SP1 x64] SFC errors, windows updater not working

DISM doesn't work the same way in Win7, so it's not necessary to run it. You can run SFC every once in a while just to check, but there are updates every month and if they fail, then there's a reason to run SFC. :) I hope I've helped.
