[7SP1Pro x64] CheckSUR corruption found, Windows Update KB4048957 repeatedly fails

Great.
Please download IE9 here and try to install it.

Hi PeterJ,

Thank you. Unfortunately, the link you provided no longer works in any browser, however I found a thread on Spiceworks ([SOLVED] Can't Download Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 - Spiceworks) which had a link to the 64-bit IE 9 download for Windows 7 direct from microsoft.com.

Sadly, the installation attempt was to no avail. Programs and Features > Installed Updates still lists IE 11 as installed, so this could be part of it?

Please see attached logs.

The CheckSur log is clean. For some reason IE8 is listed as the current browser.
Your initial issues are solved. Are there remaining issues ?

Hi PeterJ,

The only remaining issue is that Windows thinks IE 11 is installed, but when you run IE it runs IE 8 (which is the version of the files in "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer"). It would be nice to fix that, but if that's beyond the purview of this forum I understand.

In either case, thank you very much for the time you've taken in assisting me with this issue. :)

Try to uninstall Internet Explorer 11 as you did earlier. Does it succeed now ?
If it fails, perform the following instructions:

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it and press enter.

    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Filedropper or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the download link.

Sadly, this failed yet again with the message:

An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled.

Please see attached for a zip of the cbs.txt copy of the file as requested (original txt file is 48.5MB).

Thank you.

7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2:
Perform the instructions in message #26 again.

Hi PeterJ,

Sadly, failure occurs again (I rebooted post-FRST Fix prior to attempting the uninstall, though FRST did not prompt for a reboot).

Please see attached log files.

Thank you again.
