[SOLVED] After failed 8.1 upgrade, Windows Update shows error 800F0831, sfc shows corruption

I should reboot then, right?

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]
(c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart
Windows and run sfc again.

cbs.txt: Microsoft services

Here's the output:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]
(c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.

Looks like it might have been my mistake after all. Try this please.

It's possible that SFCFix is currently experiencing issues. The developper have been notified and we're awaiting a reply. Without SFCFix we cannot really go forward.

If we don't receive a reply within 72 hours, I'll make you do the fix the long way. The "long way" is for me, it means that I have to create a more complex fix but I'll do it :)

Alright I've been recommended to create the SFCFix.zip file using 7Zip, let's see how it goes.

Currently working on your old style fix. Sorry for the delay, I fell sick on Monday and I have a very busy week at work so once I get home I pratically eat and lay down to recover while I can.

I forgot to ask but, do you have your Windows 7 installation media (USB, DVD, CD)?

I don't have separate media (in fact, this ASUS Q200E doesn't have a CD/DVD) but I believe there is a recovery partition. FYI this laptop came with Windows 8 preinstalled, not 7.

Here are the partitions:

Does it seem like I should have the ability to at least create the media on a USB drive?

Also, I'm still regularly receiving an activation error, would that hinder my ability to create and use installation media?
