Cannot download updates

We couldn't be that lucky. You still have a ton of corruption. It's likely that the reason it only showed the one corruption when you ran it is that the CBS log had rolled over and been archived and the tool was only reading the current log. You can see how it archives off the logs by looking in the following directory. C:\windows\logs\cbs

The .cab files are the archived logs and the tool only reads the current log.

Good morning. It appears that the only way out is to purchase disc as mentioned previously. I have found the below disk at Amazon. Do you think this will do the job ? [h=1]Windows 8 Pro Upgrade 32/64 Bit (Product Key
Card) - w / Free Updates to 8.1 Pro - And Free Updates to Windows 10
(when released)[/h]

by Windows 8

Platform: Windows

You were not able to contact HP for replacement media? The one you mention above says it's an Upgrade DVD so I'm not sure if it would work or not.

My computer is a Lenovo Ideapad, is that by HP. How would one go about contacting HP for replacement media ? Sorry, I have no idea how to do this.

I've really screwed this one up. I went through your entire thread and it appears I posted in this thread instead of another one. You are correct. You have Windows 8.1. Also because yours came with Windows 8.1 from Lenovo we should be able to restore your computer to like it was when you got it with what you have. Is all of your data backed up? I can walk you through this process.

All my data, not programs I have installed since purchase, is backed up to Norton Online Backup. These were last updated on this morning at 3:13 am, so I should be good to go. Please remember that I do NOT wish to loose any programs that I have installed since I purchased the computer. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. I do not wish to have to re-install ANYTHING. Thanks, I await to here from you.

Understood. Your best option at this point is to purchase a replacement disk from Lenovo and do a repair install using information previously provided.

I thought you said you could restore my computer to like it was when you got it with what you have. What happened ? If I have to purchase a replacement disk, can I use the free upgrade to Windows 8.1 which I described in the word file ??

This will get rid of your installed programs so is not an option for you at this point.

When you get a replacement disk it will already have 8.1 on it so no need to upgrade to Windows 8.1. The word document was just about updating to 8.1 if you had Windows 8.

Hi, one last question & then I will leave you in peace. I am going to try and purchase a Windows 8.1 disk locally (I live in Barbados) If I get this, I believe that I need to run SFCFix.exe and insert the disk at the end and follow instructions. I understand this will download necessary files from disk & fix my problem WITHOUT erasing any of my programs installed from the web since purchase. If I can't buy a disk, I will contact my computer repair guy & see if he can fix this problem for me. Please give me any suggestions you might have. Many thanks for your help these past few days. Regards, Michael.

No worries. At this point, there is no need for SFCFix. Back in Post#14, I've provided a link with instructions on how to do the repair install. So if you purchase one locally, just put the disk in and follow those instructions. And that is correct, if you follow those instructions you won't lose any of your programs or data but there is always a risk that something could go wrong.

Thanks. A friend of mine has given me a copy of Windows 8.1, so that solves the problem of getting one. I will let you know how I get on.

Well, I have run into problems. During installation, I got a message "Something Happened." Setup has failed to validate the product key. I could not go any further and had to exit. How do I get around this please??

Good Morning

On the disk it says WIN81AIO-x64-en-US-Dec2013. In a text file it has the following.

To answer your question exactly, "I do not know".

I then decided to do a Refresh My Pc, but before I did that I have created a Custom Recovery Image to use when I Refresh. This info I found at Refresh Windows 8 - Create and Use Custom Recovery Image I have not done the refresh yet. What do you think.
