One last question before I go...

How did you repair the key? Did you attach the hive via Regedit or do you use a different tool?

I'm asking because I've seen this kind of corruption one time previously. (Thankfully, it's very uncommon and I manage ~250 desktops.) In that case, it was easier to reimage the system but this one would have been onerous to reimage.
 
Great to hear. Yes I just mounted the hive and then deleted the bad key and imported a good key from another machine.

That's interesting you found the bad key. I couldn't find it when I checked. :-( OH well.
