Constant Rolling Back of Updates - Server 2008 x64

I'd like to try resetting the transaction manager to see if that makes any difference.

Clear Transactional Logfiles
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good, especially if the computer is not experiencing these exact issues.   1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it and press enter .
    Type Y and press enter if you are asked "Are you sure?" to any line. Ignore any failure messages, they are perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

fsutil resource setautoreset true %SystemDrive%\
 
Same problem with SFC /scannow I'm afraid. Restarted after your command and before I tried to run it too.
 
Was worth a try. I don't know of anything else to try unfortunately.

In some cases with transaction manager problems there is an underlying disk issue. Is this server running RAID and has it recently experienced any disk failures, power outage, etc.?
 
Heh, don't worry. This is the only machine I've ever not managed to fix updates on so thought I'd give you guys a go as a last resort!

Thanks for trying, will just rebuild and migrate.

It's a VM which hasn't had any problems with the underlying disk. I think it's just FUBAR ;)
