[SOLVED] Device Manager - The Configuration Registry Database Corrupt

There are no guides. You need to have access to a site like MSDN in order to access the images.

BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO likely means that one of the hives is corrupt and unless you have a backup of that very system it'd be extremely difficult to fix (unless the cause is DRIVERS hive) which is only OS dependent and not machine dependent.

Oh... :/ I'm guessing you have to buy a subscription?

Well, I have a few System Restore Images, but they all fail to restore. I burned Hiren's BootCD, booted it, and mounted the latest system restore image using this guide. Then, I tried to replace the hive files in C:\Windows\System32\config with the ones from the System Restore Image. However, whenever I tried to copy SOFTWARE, it would always get a CRC error. I ran a chkdsk /f but there were no errors. Following this other guide, I tried copying SOFTWARE to NUL, which succeeded, but when I tried to copy SOFTWARE to my thumb drive with xcopy /c, it again failed with CRC error.

What was interesting was I never had a SYSTEM hive by the time I began having the blue screen, so I just gave up copying it and copied everything else. However, upon rebooting, I still got BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO.

At this point, I was ready to reset my PC, as long as I kept my files, so I restored my hive files, waited for automatic recovery to fail, and clicked advanced options -> troubleshoot -> reset this PC. However, after resetting for some time, it ended with "There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made."

Trying to use a Windows 10 bootable USB to do an in-place upgrade resulted in "The upgrade option isn't available if you start your computer using Windows installation media."

Any ideas on how I can recover this PC?

Thanks :D

I guess that's the only option left. I'll do a backup now and take a clean install.

Thank you for the guidance :)

After a few hours of backup, reinstallation, restoring user files, and reinstalling and re-setting up programs, I'm good to go. Thanks for the help :)
