Different BSODS - system service exception, driver irql not less or equal ETC.

There are ways around that error, but they have a greater chance of turning your PC into a paperweight. Are you opposed to running Windows Vista instead of Windows 7?

I really want to keep on running Windows 7, to be honest.
I upgraded to Windows 7 because I didn't like Vista, at all.

Warning

Run at your own risk! The following setting may result in the BIOS update being more likely to fail during installation. It could cause catastrophic system failure.

Run AFUWIN.exe as an administrator with the same settings as before, but this time, check Do Not Check ROM ID.

I still advise that you would be better off reverting back to Vista. In my mind, the risk is too great, but it is your system. Consider carefully before doing the above step. You may also consider contacting acer support for further advice prior to doing the BIOS flash.

What's the worst thing that could happen?

Yes, you can try flashing from a USB or DVD. You will need to get a bootable DOS drive setup first. I believe you were given some instructions to do so via SevenForums: Need help flashing BIOS.

The worst that can happen is the system will not POST and you will have to send it in to acer to fix the BIOS or replace the motherboard so the system runs again.

I got an DOS bootable USB now, how do I put the BIOS on it?

Using the Bootable DOS USB Drive
  1. Put AFUDOS.exe, flash.bat, and the .ROM file on the USB.
  2. Restart your system with the USB drive still connected.
  3. Go into the BIOS and setup the boot order in the BIOS so USB is first.
  4. Save and Exit the BIOS.

Flashing the BIOS With the Bootable DOS USB Drive
  1. Run flash.bat in DOS by typing the following command and then Enter. Let it proceed to flash the BIOS.
    Code:
    flash
  2. Restart the system.
  3. Enter the BIOS.
  4. On the Exit screen of the BIOS, load optimal settings.
  5. Save and Exit the BIOS.

At this point, you have a couple options:

  1. Revert back to Vista to see if the system is stable with Vista running. That would rule out a hardware issue.

  2. Contact acer and proceed with the BIOS update with Do Not Check ROM ID enabled if acer support agrees this is safe.

Your crashes are pointing to a hardware conflict of some sort. Whether it is due to faulty hardware or just hardware that is not adequately supported is difficult to ascertain. It seems most likely that it is a BIOS issue that is not supporting the hardware given the age of the BIOS, but I cannot say that is the case with 100% certainty unless you can show that no problems exist in Vista.

A problem with going back to Vista is I believe you had Vista x86 (32-bit) installed before; I say this based on the acer support site for your model. I can find nothing to indicate the actual version you had installed originally, so please correct me if I am wrong.

If you were running Vista 32-bit:

You are now running the 64-bit version of Windows 7. That can also reveal hardware issues that 32-bit Windows does not due to the different hardware resources each use. You could try installing Windows 7 32-bit and see if that is more stable for you if you are reluctant to go back to Vista.
