[SOLVED] DistributedCom Errs and Windows fails to update

Well, is your copy of Windows OEM or Retail? Do you know?
I clicked System in Control Panel and scrolled down to where it said, Windows is Activated, Product ID: 00359-OEM-XXXXXXX-XXXXX

So it's an OEM product key, and we cannot use it to get a Windows 7 SP1 .iso sadly, only retail keys can get one from the Microsoft Software Recovery Center.

Alright then we have two options, try to fix that update error manually, or proceed with the System Image restore (do you know how to do that?). The choice is yours.

I am familure with Regit; have no experience with System image estore.

Restoring a System Image under Windows isn't that hard.
Let me know if you still don't understand how to proceed :)

Hello Aura,

I didn't make a backup image file using Windows backup, I used Macrium Reflect. A problem occurred when restoring the system. I had to use Windows PE 5, 3.1 didn't work on with my new SSD, really fast.

From what I understand, you restored your system image on your SSD right? Is everything working now?

Good Morning Aura,

Life Is Good, I was able to rescue my laptop computer by booting from a falsh drive into Windows PE 5 environment and load Macrium's backup and restore program, then I accessed image files of my system partition made using Macrium Reflect 6 and stored on an external USB hard drive, and restored the system partition to my new solid sate drive which is faster than my old STAT drive by far. :cool3: Thank you for help in getting me this far.

After clearing Event Viewe's log files for System and Applications, I rebooted and found seven erors and warnings in Event Viewer! None appear to be as critical as was the failure of the COM+ service to start. Thank you again for your help it getting me over that problem. Here are the erors and warnings that still appear in

Glad to know that everything went well and that you're back online :) Are you able to install your Windows Updates now, or not?

Updated to soon :noidea: Here are the erors that still appear in EV:
  • 27, elcexpress, network link disconnected
  • 7000, lxdcCATSCustConnectService failed to start - did not respond to request
  • 3002, MS Antimalware Real-Time Protection feature encountered an error
  • 7006, sCrEGsETvalueExW call failed - Access denied
  • 1530, Windows detected registry file still in use, the file will be unloaded - services that hold he registry file might not function afterwards

There were 27 updates and Windows is up-to-date. :smile9:

Have a question, when I went to Control Panel/User Accounts and created a user account named KCav then rebooted, the system went to KCav's desktop, but on the system drive in C:/Users instead of KCav the name Owner appeared. Why Owner :noidea:

I have two desktop computers where the same thing happened; on these computers I changed the name by creating a user account named Temp, booted under Safe Mode, and selected the user account Temp on the log in screen. Then I went to Properties for C/Users/Owner and renamed the account KCav. Next I used Regedit to manually change ProfileList in the Registry from C:/Users/Owner to C/Users/KCav. I reboot and logged-in under KCav and went to Contol Panel/Users and deleted the Temp account. It seems to have worked on these two desktop computers, however it failed to work on the laptop. I wonder why :noidea:

One difference between these two desktop computers and my notebook is the desktops are both running Windows Professional 64-bit and the notbook is running Windows Home Premium 64-bit. Could this have something to do with creation and deletion of user name Owner :confused2:

Good :)

Are your desktops running Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10? That laptop is running Windows 8.1, right?

I don't get that. Which account did you use to create the "KCav" user, the account "Owner"? If so, did you actually log in KCav's account after the restart?

Inorder to change the name Owner to KCav I created a temporary user account called Temp. I rebooted, and when the the logon screen appeared I chose Temp. Next I went to c/users/owner and right clicked, a menu appeared an I selected Properties. Then I was able to change the name of the account from Owner to KCav. Next I manually changed the Registry. I loaded Regedit; under HKEY-Local-Machine/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Profilelist I changed c/users/owner to c:/users/kcav. Next I logged out, came back in under KCav, went to User Accounts in the Control Panel and deleted the temporay user called Temp.

This procedure only worked on the desktops. It did not work on the notebook. :noidea:
Where did the account name Owner come from? :noidea:
When I created the user KCav in User Accounts why didn't the account apppear on the system drive under Users? :noidea:

Where did the account name Owner come from?

The username "Owner" is often the default on preinstallation Windows system.

When I created the user KCav in User Accounts why didn't the account apppear on the system drive under Users?

The userprofile (under C:\Users) of an account is only created the moment the account logs in for the first time on Windows.

Why did a procedure to change the name Owner to KCav work on the desktop computers but fail to work on my notebook?

I couldn't tell to be honest, I would have to try it myself. Personally, I always avoided doing that because it can mess up easily. The "easy" solution here would be to create a new account named KCav, and transfer the content of the old "Owner" profile in the new KCav userprofile.

When I went to Control Panel/Users and created a User account named KCav, then rebooted in the c:users account KCav did not appear, only Owner. This occured on the two desktops and on the notebook. I was able to manually change the desktops but not the notebook.

It's possible that your edition of Windows is in cause. In the Pro edition, you have access to the Management Console, which can manage Users and Groups, but not in the Home Premium version. I can establish a small link, but this is just a guess.
