  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Compress to Zip file. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please post me the link to the file

  • Thanks

Thanks, looking over your latest CBS.log now, back ASAP.

Might be a while, because from the brief look I've had so far, it's showing that your machine is lacking some files that I may have difficulty sourcing replacements for.

Will have to consult with some of my more experienced colleagues, to see how we can progress if that is the case.

It is weird, it's the first time I am experiencing problems like these. And I didn't do anything (to my knowledge) to modify the registry, not download the updates on time or stuff like that. I don't have the necessary experience to diagnose my problem, but from what I saw so far, it seems that I've been missing a lot of files/packages. I like to think I take care of my machine, but it seems that I've been 'careless' in this matter.

Update problems happen for the strangest of reasons, and are rarely caused by something that the owner of the computer did.

Unfortunately the actual cause of the problem is a usually down to a multitude of things, and it's only when you fix one, that others show themselves. So as each shows itself we fix it, and continue until the problem is resolved.

In your case, the problem seems to be that there are a number of corrupted/missing component files, but it wasn't clear earlier whether the probem was down to the Registry entries that called those files being corrupted, or their related manifest files being corrupt. So we fixed/replaced those, and next we're going to replace/add back the missing component files.

I've managed to source the files I that I thought I might have trouble acquiring, so as soon as my fix had been approved, I'll be posting it.
