[SOLVED] error 14098 Windows Server 2016

Hi,

Please check the COMPONENTS file again because it seems very small!

Not looking good!

SFCFix Script

  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file SFCScript.txt, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    8RAhYFg.gif
    SFCScript.txt
  • Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
  • The SFCFix tool will process the script
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

Hi,

The result of the scan is strange!
  • please run FRST64, on the Search box type COMPONENTS and click the Search Files button.
  • Wait for the search to finish FRST will produce a log called (Search.txt) in the same directory the Tool is run from.
  • Please attach the log to your post.

Hi,

FRST didn't find any other copy of the COMPONENTS store! do you have any backup copy of this file?

Hi,

Sorry but yesterday I was in business travel. I found an old backup with component file apparently not corrupted

It is available at the following link

COMPONENTS.zip

I didn't replace it already

Good move not replacing the file yet.

Can you check the Windows Updates history list and tell me the date of the last successful update installation?

I suspect that, it is the last installed Service Stack v10.0.14393.3622 identified in the CBS log, but the components hive backup is prior to this installation!

If you don't have a more recent backup then I think the best option of recovery would be to revert the complete registry or the all system to the state on the same date probably around 30/03/2020 based on the components file date.

I cannot as we have data recorded which need to be used in production during last year.
But If I will find a backup after April 2020, can I replace just the file?

Good, I will try to find it today and let you know tomorrow.
Thanks meanwhile

Hi,

Good that looks better!

Replace the COMPONENTS hive with this one and then repeat the steps from posts #2 and #14 but only the part Search with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and provide both SearchReg.txt files.

Thanks, lets do this in 2 steps, first one:

Farbar Recovery Scan Fix

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, running the script on another computer will not work and may cause problems...

  • Download the file attached and save it to the Desktop as fixlist.txt
(It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work!)
  • Execute FRST/FRST64 right click on the icon
    FRST.gif
and choose Run as Administrator. Make sure all other windows are closed.
    FRST_Fix.png
  • Press the Fix button just once and Wait. After the fix the system needs to restart if the tool does not request it please Restart the computer.
  • The tool will make a log (Fixlog.txt) on the same location as FRST/FRST64 please post it in your next reply.
