Error code 80073701 windows 7

You'll have to copy the CBS.log file to the desktop - then zip the copy for upload.

This seems to be the error from the WU log...

Code:
2014-10-16 16:35:56:222 2164 cb4 CltUI AU client got new directive = 'Interactive Progress', serviceId = {7971F918-A847-4430-9279-4A52D1EFE18D}, return = 0
2014-10-16 16:41:46:386 2164 cb4 CltUI FATAL: BeginInteractiveInstall for install returned code 8024000C
2014-10-16 16:41:46:471 2164 cb4 CltUI WARNING: AU directive Interactive Progress is exiting due to error 8024000C

This error is apparently often caused by proxy servers getting in the way.

In your case, I think there's something else going on, and WU is crashing.
You appear to be set to update from a private server, using WSUS? - if this is not intentional then we need to reset the relevant policies in the registry.

Its no intentional. Configurations are from previous user, i havent touch them. So lets start resetting.

Create a System Restore point
Please open Regedit
BE CAREFUL - THERE IS NO UNDO OPTION!

Look for the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
key and expand it
- there's probably a subkey there for WindowsUpdate.
Export that (just in case) - right-click and select Export - call it wupol
then delete the WindowsUpdate subkey ONLY
exit regedit, and reboot.

Now try Windows Update again, and post the new windowsupdate.log file

Hmm - I'm going to have to think about this!

Back tomorrow, I hope!

Hmm maybe it's in the User area instead (shouldn't be, but some Admins do peculiar things)..

Have a look in the registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

See if the WindowsUpdate subkey exists in any of them - if it does, which one? - then delete it.

Thanks for trying yet and again.

Looked in registry keys in your reply and didnt find Windows Update subkey.

Anything update related that i found was:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-4170652461-434088590-580587066-1001_Classes\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Deployment\ClickOnce35SP1Update

And as usual i dont know if its relevant, thought to share my findings...
