Every so often Memory usage increases until System starts to fail needing Reboot

The more data MS gather, the more risk they are of interest to hackers AND the greatest risk is MS being answerable to some Govt. agency who can force them by law to hand own data (in fact this has already been tried as it has been with Apple and Google etc.)
We should always be wary of government overreaching, but it seems you are more afraid of them than you are of unscrupulous ISPs and bad guys.

Get out the tin foil hats! AGAIN - Microsoft is NOT trying to steal your personal information. They do NOT have access to your real name, billing address or billing information nor are they seeking it. In fact, W10 is by far, the most secure Windows to date. Not only that, Microsoft has for years been fighting hard (and spending $millions and $millions) to protect the data they collect on us - not just from the bad guys, but from our governments too - Microsoft Wins Appeal Against DoJ Warrant for Users Emails.

It is noted MS do not allow Users to decide what and how much telemetry and data we wish to pass to them
:( That is simply not true and sadly, this just demonstrates the bigger problem - that is how misguided many are, and worse, how those misguided are so instrumental in perpetuating the rumor mongering and relentless Microsoft bashing that only results in more misguided users not only believing such exaggerated falsehoods, but further perpetuating said misinformation. :(

While it is true telemetry in W10 is enabled by default, Microsoft provides a simple way to disable almost all of it (all in some versions of W10) - and there are many tutorials out there to block the rest - at least from Windows. But that does NOT stop any 3rd party program users install themselves from spying on you - as many programs do. Microsoft cannot stop the bad guys activities if users open the front door and invite the bad guys in. What would happen if Microsoft blocked all 3rd party apps from such behavior? Microsoft bashers would slam Microsoft for that too!

Your Edge comment, IMO, just demonstrates your deep-seated biases (whether you realize them or not!) for anything Microsoft. Edge has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion but you bring it up (with twisted logic, no less) in some attempt to further disparage Microsoft! Why is Microsoft pushing Edge? Because (1) it is the most secure browser out there, (2) because of the relentless bashing Microsoft got for years and still gets over IE from misguided, misinformed and biased MS bashers! :( And (3) it makes no good business sense to spend $millions maintaining development on two browsers so MS would like to migrate all IE users to Edge so they can, once and for all, discontinue IE and concentrate on Edge development.

What I find ironic is your boasting over your use of FF - the browser that for the last several years has consistently had more newly discovered vulnerabilities than any other leading browser. Don't believe me? Subscribe to the Department of Homeland Security's US-CERT Cyber Security Bulletin Vulnerability Summaries. FF is also the one that regularly comes in at or near the bottom in thwarting socially engineered methods of malware distributions behind IE, Chrome and now Edge.

I am NOT saying FF is unsafe - I am saying since you are so intent on protecting your privacy it is silly for you to NOT be using Edge.

God and certainly I know that Microsoft has done plenty that warrants bashing over the years. And those who know me know I don't hold back any punches when I bash Microsoft - especially over some of Microsoft's ill-conceived, misguided, and mismanaged marketing schemes. But do your home work and bash where bashing is due and I will defend your Right to do so tooth and nail. But don't just repeat exaggerations, falsehoods and unfounded rumors - or I will defend your target with the same vigor.

Wow Digerati, Seems an OTT and aggressive response to me and my "It is noted" comment was unfairly cut short in your reply with only you replying to "It is noted MS do not allow Users to decide what and how much telemetry and data we wish to pass to them" leaving out the salient rest part of my comment which added context. My full comment was:
"It is noted MS do not allow Users to decide what and how much telemetry and data we wish to pass to them. I do appreciate much of the data is purely to identify issues and weaknesses so MS can bring out updates to resolve but I also believe it is for targetted ads and the like which I do not feel is appropriate for a pad for OS. Whilst exact address may not be know Country and area are (of course this applies to all Companies Browsers etc.)"

I seem to have hit a raw nerve and I regret that. I will out of respect answer your comments

"We should always be wary of government overreaching, but it seems you are more afraid of them than you are of unscrupulous ISPs and bad guys."
I was not aware I was talking about all aspects of computing. You raised "unscrupulous ISPs and bad guys" which of course are a nightmare for every person and every company. I would mention, it is not only unscrupulous ISPs that may/do monitor or collect data as it depends on the laws of each country on what is required of ISPs, firms and Social Media.

I did try Edge (which came with Win 10) but it was not as functional when I last tried to use it, as I found IE11 and Firefox at the time. I prefer to use IE11 over Edge. That shows I trust MS more than you suggest I do, coz I am fully aware of the criticisms.
Just for the record I find Edge OK and improving. I do not like Win 10 mail app, as don't many others both users and industry media. I loved Outlook Express but had to move to WLM when MS ended its Dave protocol. I then grew to love WLM and still use it (although IMAP is not as quick as Delta Sync was - which MS decided to end as well). I have no idea if MS terminated the two protocols due to security but it managed to upset millions of HAPPY users on each occasion when it did.

I am committed to MS and despite you seemingly to suggest I am anti-MS you are totally WRONG. I have been purchasing MS (suitable for Home PCs) OS since 3.11 (missing only Vista and Windows 8/8.1). The only reasons I missed out on those two were initial concerns raised by users who upgraded early in the case of Vista, and to be honest I did not upgrade to Windows 8/8.1 coz I thought Windows 7 x64 Ultimate was GREAT and I really loved it. I upgraded to win 10 Pro (x64) because of the Free upgrade offer AND because I knew support (which I consider important) would last longer than with Windows 7. Added security/privacy was not a prime consideration, because I have reasonably decent software to help protect my PC AND I have nothing to hide. MY views on privacy are purely based on Principal NOT need.

I have only ever used Skype for all my online telephony. I have already stated above I used Outlook Express then (and currently) WLM 2012. My main email account of 15 years plus is a Hotmail account. I could have chosen to use Libre or Open Office or paid for others, I could have chosen to use Thunderbird instead of WLM 2012 and other online telephony apps instead of Skype, but I chose not to, because the MS products I use, I like very much and I consider them the best . I have never attempted to investigate Linux as happy with Windows. My son uses my old PC for 99% Internet and use it has a SEPARATELY purchased Win XP OS. I appreciate old, end of life and unsupported and far from secure But he has no personal data on his PC (mainly likes watching Youtube streams) and I have ensured although he shares my ADSL Modem Router fixed cables we have Zero sharing between our PCs and equipment. His PC is not up to running newer Windows Os and when I can afford to upgrade his PC I will Buy a Win 10 Package (Probably Pro as easier for me to support if same as mine package). When I built my new (then PC) I separately purchased Win 7 (x64) Ultimate full package. Consequently I am heavily invested in MS BY CHOICE and I ma offended by incorrect opinions I am anti MS purely based upon one or two concerns I have (and that I do not love Edge :smile9:). As I said above "MY views on privacy and Telemetry etc. are purely based on Principal NOT need." and I did not discuss ISP, Google and other brands/products coz this is a MS Win 10 Section.

----

When Windows 10 first came out there was huge coverage about the increased Telemetry in that OS from experts be they industry media or knowledgable people. Why would you expect us mere mortals to disbelieve all their concerns? Should we ignores all the concerns about Google data gathering when Govt.s around the World are taking them on for various issues. Let us not pretend MS has not had its own share of lawsuits, settlements and judgements against it.
Does this put me off MS and others? NO!
Do I use proxy servers and the like? NO _ am not neurotic and have nothing to hide.

Some, may wonder why I query the increased data gathering that came with Win10 (which was not necessary with win 7) and why I did not attack Google etc. Well I have not paid Google for its products so I expect it and other "free" services such a "social media" to attempt to get their finances from ads and data gathering (even though I personally think Google goes much to far and hence why I do not attempt to use Chrome). I do use Google search because in all honesty its the best.

----

If you wish to believe those like me who voice SOME concerns or unhappiness with some aspects of MS operations or products are anti MS, incorrect, misguided and in some cases spreading misinformation then I cannot do anything about that you believe what you believe.

I read the article you linked to and was already aware MS had in all credit fought back recently. I also agree MS T& C are much less intrusive than other mentioned, but MS are not as pure as the driven snow as they have been take on on by individuals, Countries, EU and Civil suites and have settled on or lost some of those.

Was this article in error? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/11/microsoft-nsa-collaboration-user-data.
I honestly do not know but several different sources allude to similar information. Of course both of us have cherry picked in citing only one Link each and neither gives any sense of balance over time. The link I offered was not to put down MS but to show how much pressure they and other big companies are under to provide access to what data they do have (so IMO the less they have the better) and less data at risk of being hacked by your "bad guys". I think you will agree Digerati that very rare is the company even the best and most respected perfect and never gets challenged with lawsuits.

I'll leave it at that, and sincerely apologize for offending your held views.:smile9:

Regards, DKO
