We should always be wary of government overreaching, but it seems you are more afraid of them than you are of unscrupulous ISPs and bad guys. :huh:The more data MS gather, the more risk they are of interest to hackers AND the greatest risk is MS being answerable to some Govt. agency who can force them by law to hand own data (in fact this has already been tried as it has been with Apple and Google etc.)
Get out the tin foil hats! AGAIN - Microsoft is NOT trying to steal your personal information. They do NOT have access to your real name, billing address or billing information nor are they seeking it. In fact, W10 is by far, the most secure Windows to date. Not only that, Microsoft has for years been fighting hard (and spending $millions and $millions) to protect the data they collect on us - not just from the bad guys, but from our governments too - Microsoft Wins Appeal Against DoJ Warrant for Users Emails.
That is simply not true and sadly, this just demonstrates the bigger problem - that is how misguided many are, and worse, how those misguided are so instrumental in perpetuating the rumor mongering and relentless Microsoft bashing that only results in more misguided users not only believing such exaggerated falsehoods, but further perpetuating said misinformation. It is noted MS do not allow Users to decide what and how much telemetry and data we wish to pass to them
While it is true telemetry in W10 is enabled by default, Microsoft provides a simple way to disable almost all of it (all in some versions of W10) - and there are many tutorials out there to block the rest - at least from Windows. But that does NOT stop any 3rd party program users install themselves from spying on you - as many programs do. Microsoft cannot stop the bad guys activities if users open the front door and invite the bad guys in. What would happen if Microsoft blocked all 3rd party apps from such behavior? Microsoft bashers would slam Microsoft for that too!
Your Edge comment, IMO, just demonstrates your deep-seated biases (whether you realize them or not!) for anything Microsoft. Edge has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion but you bring it up (with twisted logic, no less) in some attempt to further disparage Microsoft! Why is Microsoft pushing Edge? Because (1) it is the most secure browser out there, (2) because of the relentless bashing Microsoft got for years and still gets over IE from misguided, misinformed and biased MS bashers! And (3) it makes no good business sense to spend $millions maintaining development on two browsers so MS would like to migrate all IE users to Edge so they can, once and for all, discontinue IE and concentrate on Edge development.
What I find ironic is your boasting over your use of FF - the browser that for the last several years has consistently had more newly discovered vulnerabilities than any other leading browser. Don't believe me? Subscribe to the Department of Homeland Security's US-CERT Cyber Security Bulletin Vulnerability Summaries. FF is also the one that regularly comes in at or near the bottom in thwarting socially engineered methods of malware distributions behind IE, Chrome and now Edge.
I am NOT saying FF is unsafe - I am saying since you are so intent on protecting your privacy it is silly for you to NOT be using Edge.
God and certainly I know that Microsoft has done plenty that warrants bashing over the years. And those who know me know I don't hold back any punches when I bash Microsoft - especially over some of Microsoft's ill-conceived, misguided, and mismanaged marketing schemes. But do your home work and bash where bashing is due and I will defend your Right to do so tooth and nail. But don't just repeat exaggerations, falsehoods and unfounded rumors - or I will defend your target with the same vigor.
