[SOLVED] Failed to install kb3000850

Alright follow the instructions below please.

1. Boot your machine machine into a Clean Boot state.
2. Attempt to install the update.
3. If it fails, provide the CBS.log

Alright, right-click on the Windows logo and select Command Prompt (Administrator). From there, enter the following command:
Code:
netcfg.exe" -e -c p -i MS_TCPIP
It should output this:
Code:
Trying to install MS_TCPIP ...... done.
Let me know how it goes.

I get the following error:

C:\Windows\system32>netcfg -e -c p -i MS_TCPIP
Trying to install MS_TCPIP ...

... failed. Error code: 0x8007000d.

Alright, follow the instructions below please.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Open an elevated Command Prompt and run netcfg.exe -e -c p -i MS_TCPIP just like you did previously.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as the command fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log.

Did you ever have a USB Wireless Modem? Maybe a Novatel?

Do you currently have Hyper-V enabled? Also, do you use VMware Workstation?

Is Hyper-V enabled or not? It could be enabled even if you don't use it. You can check it out in the Turn Windows Features On or Off in the Control Panel under Programs.

Me and my teacher think that the error is caused by your network adapters. Would you be willing to uninstall VMware, restart your computer and then try to install the KB3000850 again?

Unfortunately still failing :(

Shouldn't I just reinstall windows 8? Feels like giving up :), but this is costing you guys a lot of time.

You are free to reinstall Windows 8/8.1 if you want. A lot of users around the web did that because of that specific error code for that specific update. All of them were on the same kind of troubleshooting as we are doing here (where network drivers are the culprits). It could end up being faster to simply reinstall Windows, than continue troubleshooting that issue. The call is yours, I'll support you either way :)

Hi Aura,

The restarts with updates and rollback took around half an hour every time and because you cant do anything else at the meantime except waiting it really began to bother me so I choose the dark side and did a fresh install of windows 8, and after a bunch of updates, finally got the result I was looking for ....

I want to thank you (and your teacher) very much for all the effort you took to help me solve this problem. I really appreciate it a lot! Good luck on your training! When I run into upgrade problems again(hopefully not), I know where to go, I got the forums of sysnative.com bookmarked :)

Best regards!

Glad to see that your issue has been solved erwtwin :) Sorry that we weren't able to solve your issue without a clean reinstall but thank you for your kind words, I'll transmit them to my teacher (Brian) right away! :)
