Tekno Venus, thanks for the fix

Noel. for some reason I now cannot boot in Safe Mode (a new problem) and can't use msconfig to allow this because there is yet another file missing.

I looked at the log I uploaded to the website and it seems 707 files missing are a very large number for my not so tech savvy eyes. I have an ISO of the Win 7 64 bit SP1 DVD.Might it be easier to attempt a repair install? I had tried this earlier with my upgrade disk and got the error message that I couldn't upgrade from Professional to Professional(?) I was intending to upgrade to Win 8 at some time, but I have heard so many complaints about the interface I have been hesitant. I just did a backup of my C: drive with Acronis and am trying to verify it. If I can't I would repeat itto be sure befor making a repair or upgrade.
Thanks to everyone, John

Ouch - with that number of files missing (and the type of some of them) I wouldn't be surprised if a repair install failed.
I suspect that you have a deeper problem, since many of the missing files are from the original installation, rather than from updates.
It doesn't look to me as if it's a RAM problem, so I suspect the Hard Drive.

... Please open Event Viewer

In the left pane, navigate to the Windows Logs

right-click on Applications and select 'Save all events as...' save as Apps.evtx
repeat for the System logs - save as Sys.evtx
Compress both files, and attach to your reply or upload to your favourite fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive/SkyDrive) and post a link in your reply

Noel,
the HDD is a fairly new 1 TB SSD that has b een CHDSk'ed recently.
I'll attach the files if I can.

The Application data only goes back to Saturday - so any CHKDSK results from before that are gone, and there's none in the existing data.
However, there are some disk problems on at least two drives/partitions

The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume \Device\HarddiskVolume6.
The device, \Device\Harddisk4\DR4, has a bad block
Both errors are from the 28th Oct.

There also appear to be significant errors in your Silicon Image drivers..

Hi John,

There is no way we can repair the amount of corrupt files you have on your system.
Code:
 Found 707 errors
CSI Payload File Missing Total count: 707

For that many files to be corrupt, hardware is normally the culprit. One of the things aim to do when dealing with a Windows Update thread is to consider the root cause of the problem. In this case, the corruptions don't look RAM related (although I would recommend you follow these instructions to test your RAM: Test RAM With Memtest86+ - Sysnative Forums. Memtest86+ will need to run for at least 8 passes - this will take a few hours so it's best to run it overnight.), so I would suspect the HDD/SSD. Before I work on a fix, we need to work out if it is or isn't a hardware fault and replace any failed components, otherwise the errors will continue to occur faster than I can fix them.

What make and model is your SSD?

-Stephen
