[SOLVED] First Post - Windows 7 Update Failure

Hmm, is this a valid Windows 7 installation ?

Yes, a valid installation and the original software that came with the Dell computer. Remember that the hard disk failed and this whole process we've been going through has been to fix the Retrospect restore that was done from the latest full system backup.

Ok. For some reason several system tasks are removed, maybe due to the disk failure.
As Windows is working almost normally, KB4534310 fails to install, I think we are done.

OK, do you think it's worth attempting the Windows 7 Professional upgrade? This has failed when I've tried it previously. Or, is it best to just leave it as-is since it's almost normal?

Thank you for all the assistance with this recovery process!

Why this upgrade ?
Make sure you have a system image in case something went wrong.

The upgrade is just something I've always wanted to do and it always failed (the past five years).

Yes, a new image is in hand. I attempted the upgrade and it failed the same as before.

It seems that we (you) have done all you can to assist with this recovery. Is this the longest thread in history . . . lol.

Thank you PeterJ!

What error message did you get ?. A screenshot would be helpful.

Most likely. For me absolutely. I'm glad we could help.

The attached screen grab does not tell you much. This computer can only be upgraded to Win 7 Professional using the Windows Anytime Upgrade choice under the Control Panel>System and Security. When I select it, it takes a while to process but then just stops with a the attached message.

I would expect a normal process would get to a point where it asks you to provide the Windows 7 Professional install media (which I have).

Even when attempt to upgrade via the installation media it will get to a point where is says I have to use Windows Anytime Upgrade to upgrade this computer. It's basically a Catch 22 situation.

I'm fine without the upgrade. I just thought if I could upgrade it would fix any remaining problems with this computer.

Never upgrade a crippled OS. The issues may still remain in the new OS.

Your welcome. I will mark this thread as solved.

Follow the instructions below to cleanup the tools and logfiles used in this thread.
Rename the file FRST64.exe to uninstall.exe and run it. This will remove all files and folders created by FRST and the tool itself.
Reboot the machine to complete.
You may remove all other tools and log files.

Take care.
