FixIt Ceter Pro

Same as everyone else. Either a hang or a connection problem error code.

They tempt us with an MSDN post, and then we can't access the website :p

I know....

What's worse - I never tried the link before trying to help in this thread b/c it appeared others were all fine; maybe not.

Have you tried getting anything from the Download Center lately that requires validation??

What link is it that we're talking about here, please?

That's what got me in trouble the first time. I could access the MSDN site, but the link ~1/2-way down the page was the one that gave me the error.

From the TechNet post that Karl provided a link to:

In the past, in order for customers to use MSDT Analysis Package you would have an open case with Microsoft so they could send you an email with a link to download the package. However now, customers can choose to download any individual stand-alone MSDT Analysis Package by using our technology via Microsoft FixIt Center Pro (FICP) from the following URL link below:

https://wc.ficp.support.microsoft.com/Dashboards/Main/SelfHelpCase/Create?showReturn=True

Well, now when I get in and select one of the items, Microsoft Excel Baseline Diagnostic, for example, I am immediately prompted to "Enter a name for the Analysis Session you are about to create." So it seems there's a Catch 22 there if the above TechNet thing were true. That is, you need an Analysis Session to get access, but you cannot create an Analysis Session without access. :banghead:

The problem there is, I never (that I am aware of) created a session.

Thank you, Corrine for verification.

All browsers here unable to access that site. I get the same error msg as before - connection failed.

Interesting to note:

The link - https://wc.ficp.support.microsoft.com/Dashboards/Main/SelfHelpCase/Create?showReturn=True

The IE add bar briefly turns green for Live login; link in add bar changes to -

https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct=1350841841&rver=6.1.6195.0&wp=MBI&wreply=https:%2F%2Fwc.ficp.support.microsoft.com%2FDashboards%2FMain%2FSignIn%3FreturnUrl%3D%252fDashboards%252fMain%252fSelfHelpCase%252fCreate%253fshowReturn%253dTrue&lc=1033&id=278480

I get right in to TechNet, MSDN, MVP, etc... with Live login, but not that site.

Tried IE and FFox; "Run as Admin"; Hidden Admin; Safemode, .... no-go.

Tried both IE9 x64 & x86; error msg -

If I go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate -- validation is successful.

John, I get the "validation tool no longer supported message" for another thing I needed to download. I solved it via the workaround link Noel gave:

The workaround is to amend the existing URL by inserting 'genuine-validation' instead of 'details' in your download page URL
so for the one above,
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14
becomes
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/genuine-validation.aspx?id=14

Likewise
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3941
becomes
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/genuine-validation.aspx?id=3941

...and your download becomes visible, and you can click on the Download button..

This is confusing now... I think.

I don't need the workaround because the 1st set of links without the added genuine-validation works fine here. Both links get me to the same page. :confused2:

This is the problem child link -

https://wc.ficp.support.microsoft.com/Dashboards/Main/SelfHelpCase/Create?showReturn=True

Where in that would the /genuine-validation be added to make it work?

Not sure about that one. It seems microsoft have not updated their validation tool for some pages. I found the workaround helped me when downloading a different item.

The problem isn't so much the tool, as the fact that the site is linking to it by default - whereas it should be pushing the ActiveX validation instead (through IE/FF/Chrome, at least)
It's been a creeping problem - I never had any problems using IE9 32-bit until Saturday, but now I can't get anything at without playing with the links. (I have in the past had problems on FF, but Chrome was OK - haven't used it since June though)

I suspect that things may change on 26th - we'll see ;)

OH..... now I get it.

I can't actually get to the download because GenuineCheck.exe fails - says that version it's not supported on my system.

That makes sense to me assuming GenuineCheck.exe 1st checks the OS as I would not be installing a Vista x86 driver on my Windows 7 x64 system -

Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista (32-bit)

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14

IDK if it does an OS check or not or if there is perhaps a different version of GenuineCheck.exe for W7 x64....?

Isn't the problem child link the focus here? Does it come from the d/l center?

https://wc.ficp.support.microsoft.com/Dashboards/Main/SelfHelpCase/Create?showReturn=True

I get a completely different error page with it than GenuineCheck.exe in that Vista x86 download.

EDIT: Adding 'genuine-validation' to the Vista x86 URL does allow me to download it.

I can't remember the last time I went through the d/l center - I go to TechNet or MSDN - no issues at all.
