[SOLVED] Frequent BSoD, 3 times a day, BSoDs every 5 minutes when login screen.

Yes, this is the laptop. I have a laptop cooler attached to my laptop but I don't think it's that effective.

Alright, when I tried to reboot my computer I got this BSOD 3 times. I have the dump file View attachment 717for one of the 3 times. I managed to fix it by going into safe mode and just removing NetLimiter 3. If it helps though, the dump file is attached.

The laptop has never been back to HP before, and I purchased the system in August 2010, yes.

I have a similar DV-7 and those temps are way high. W/o cooling pad mine runs just about 140F (where the fan licks on) and under 100 load it runs about 160. With a cooler master cooling pad it never budges from the 140's

Edit::

The most recent was driver verified and indeed Related to ntdi.sysl NetLimiter Driver from Locktime Software. I also note you still have the 2008 AMDtools64.sys. That really needs to be updated or removed.

I used compressed air on the fans and now it's running even hotter... constantly 100 to 103 degrees, it's not really under load either.

How do I update AMDTools64.sys?

Is the fan even turning? Is it loud? at what temp does it switch on? DO you have an extended warranty on the DV-7?

I feel air coming out of my laptop, and it is really loud (the fan on the top left that is). Towards the center it is blowing out cool air, and towards the side (right above the monitor cable, so I'm going to assume that's where the video card is) there is hot air coming out. I'm not even sure if there is a fan on the bottom left of my laptop, as I never feel any air coming from it. It switches on between 80 and 100.

I don't have extended warranty on this, sadly.

EDIT #2: Could the temperature be high because I am running Driver Verifier?

Hello Rebellion,

Just to clear up what may be a misconception... The fans are located under the laptop, they draw cool air in from underneath and direct it out the back, over the CPU/GPU heatsink(s). There are a bunch of vents on the underside of your laptop... The round-ish ones that are located near the rear exhausts are the fan ventilation openings.

Not really sure, I just disabled a bunch of services and startup programs unrelated to Microsoft. Mostly HP stuff.

HP is known for their bloatware as I well know. I scraped mine the minute I got it. In any case with mine as well, if the load goes up the temp does. Thats why I got the cooling pad. Mine is 17" so it puts out a bunch of heat.

Hi, Rebellion.

After looking at your Speccy log, I double-checked the MiniToolbox log and see you have both AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials. Please only run one antivirus software as you can experience conflicts with multiple A/V programs. Note also that there are two versions of AVG listed in installed programs. If you wish to continue using Microsoft Security Essentials, note that it has been updated to Version 4 (Version 3 was an in-house version and wasn't released to the public). You should see an update for MSE in Microsoft Updates. Please select one antivirus program and remove the other, including the older version of AVG.

AVG 2012 (Version: 12.0.1808)
AVG 2012 (Version: 2012.0.1809)
Microsoft Security Essentials (Version: 2.1.1116.0)

I think you should still clean the heatsink with a can of compressed air, the CPU temp would not normally be that warm even if running a lot of bloatware, it's usually a sign the heatsink fins have a build up of dust and debris that prevent heat transfer to air.

That's really strange; under Add or Remove Programs when I search AVG, I only get the 2012.0.1809 version. Also currently running autoruns. Will edit this post when the .ARN is ready. Going to head out to buy some compressed air as well.View attachment 718

One good thing is that I haven't bluescreened yet, but I'm not sure if that means anything. Going to purchase a can of compressed air right now to clean out my fans.

Absolutely agree - use AVG Removal Tool.

Create a system restore point -
START | type create | create a restore point

Bring AutoRuns up; "Logon" tab; un-check these boxes -
- HP Wireless Assistant
- Windows Mail (2 boxes near bottom)

The event logs an WERCON show networking problems and crashes involving networking, Cisco, Windows Updates and I believe the HP Wifi Asst is the likely culprit. Windows 7 does not need any help managing wifi.

You should be using Windows Wireless Zero Configuration only for wifi. Be sure that the WLAN AutoConfig (Wlansvc) system service is set to Automatic and is running -
START | type services.msc

Did you install --> http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/
Or did the system come with it installed?

Did you adjust the page file on June 1?
Code:
[FONT=Lucida Console][COLOR=#000080]AllocatedBaseSize[/COLOR]=[COLOR=#ff0000]3893[/COLOR]
Caption=C:\pagefile.sys
CurrentUsage=74
Description=C:\pagefile.sys
[COLOR=#000080]InstallDate[/COLOR]=[COLOR=#ff0000]20120601[/COLOR]175710.847681-240
Name=C:\pagefile.sys
PeakUsage=79
Status=
TempPageFile=FALSE[/FONT]

If so, that's fine... just curious here.

The Install Date usually = Windows installation date/ initial system boot (Original Install Date: 8/17/2010, 7:15:24 PM) , unless the page file was adjusted.

The Allocated Base Size for the page file should be > installed physical RAM (if page file settings = system managed). For a 4 GB RAM system, Windows usually allocates a ~4.1 GB page file; yours = 3893 MB and may be a reason that some BSODs have not produced dumps.

BSODs but no Dump Files?

Reset page file settings to system managed -

If you encounter wifi connectivity issues after HP Wifi Mgr disable, run system restore -
START | type rstrui

Disabled HP Wireless Assistant, internet connectivity is fine. Disabled the Windows Mail thing too.

I installed UltraMon myself.

I did not adjust the page file, what does this mean? The page file settings appear to be automatically managed.

Also, my laptop is running a lot cooler under load (around 80 - 90 degrees celsius when I'm playing a game) since I used the canned air. It was running at about 100 before that. It runs at about 60 - 70 degrees now when it first boots.

Still warm. Mine is running 46C under 50% load. Can you look in task manager and tell us ho many processes are running? On mine (in 64 bit) I am running 59 Processes atm but mine is win 8.

I think mine is a close cousin to yours. 4 gigs ram, 1 gig video card, etc.
